I've got this as well, was months in agony before I saw a doc about it. Now I have specially made inserts I wear in my shoes. Makes it a nightmare to find shoes now.. I've got flat wide feet and inserts. Wide shoes for women are difficult to find at best, lol. These special socks you wear sound interesting. I do miss being able to wear some of my shoes, as my inserts don't fit in them
    Mine looks like this:

They're $30 - $40 on Amazon, but you can get them on Ebay for a lot less:

It took a while to get used to wearing it while I sleep, but now I don't even notice it, and it makes a HUGE difference - if I don't wear it, I'm in pain the next day.

The best exercise is bottle rolling - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=E0oYIZsmPmc
You can also roll a golf ball along the bottom of your foot : http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_X_37LzG5Rs

      For those wondering...
I saw the podiatrist today. It is plantar facitis. Doc said the shoes I usually use are good, but look into getting some Burkenstockers(sp?) as they are made for people with high arches. Gave me a couple exercises, and sent my PCP a note to get me into PT.

Good - an actual diagnosis and treatment plan. Way better than some amorphous something wrong and no idea what to do about it!

          Birkenstocks.

Pricey but very well made, I still have a pair of sandals from high school that I wore on graduation.

My clogs are 10 years old and have very little tread on the soles, but are still the comfiest shoes I own. I finally had to throw my sandals out after six years because they had holes in the soles and my heels were touching the ground.

If you don't like the shoes themselves, they also make arch supports you can put in your existing shoes.

Another thing I do for occasional foot pain is to take one of those spiky dryer balls and roll that around under my foot.

I've never had Birkenstocks, but I know people who say they're (a) excellent shoes, and (b) last forever.

Thanks for the link guys. I was able to find a retailer that sells them about 4 blocks away. I'm going to go in and check out their selection and get fitted. It's. Always a different size when I try on shoes. Anything between a 7.5 and a 8 I ha to try on to see what size I am in this brand shoe.

Also check out Dansko and Clarke. Both are well- supported shoes.

Believe it or not - Crocs are great too - my podiatrist told me to get a pair to wear when I'm at home, and NEVER walk around barefoot.
