As of Friday, I am now a certified phlebotomist!!I had to do a 2-week practicum at my local hospital and I passed with flying colours and got a perfect grading mark from my Phlebotomy proctor. I'm on cloud 9!!!
Its just the first step, as now starting in Sept I have one more full year of instruction at college, learning all the OTHER lab departments (acessions, chemistry, hematology, blood bank, microbiology, pathology, etc) and then I'll be back at the hospital July 2012 to start a 10-month practicum rotating all those departments. Once I pass that, I'll be a certified Medical Laboratory Technologist
It was an amazing experience. Everybody I worked or associated with during my two weeks was amazingly supportive and enthusiastic. I had to get 50 veinpunctures done in the 2 weeks with a minimum 80% success rate. I did 104 and my success rate was 87%!!!
