  • How My Mom Ruined Christmas...

    ...At The Age of Four.

This is a True Story that happened somewhere between 1918 and 1920. I've heard the story from my Mom, her parents and her older sisters and brother. I have no reason to doubt the stories because they all tell the same tale.

I've chosen to make this post in the style of Dr. Seuss. I hope you read and enjoy it.

My Mom was a girl of four, skinny and small.
As the fourth child of five hardly noticed at all.

Her parents were German and so had a tree
That was tall and was full and was lovely to see.

The hub of the tree was a little blue trumpet.
(I'm not going anywhere near to Mount Crumpet)

The trumpet was metal and had a small reed.
If you blew on the trumpet it sounded, indeed.

Mom's three older siblings had all had a blow
And Mom thought that it was her time to do so.

Her parents were tired of noise, do you see?
So they moved the horn off to the side of the tree.

Mom saw where that horn was. She knew where to go.
She'd get to the horn and she'd give it a blow.

It wasn't that hard. She could climb up a chair
Then she'd move to the window sill. No one would care.

She just had to lean a bit into the tree
And she'd blow the blue trumpet "Whoo-Eeee Oh Whoo-Whee!"

She didn't quite make it. The Horn didn't sound.
She fell into the tree and it crashed to the ground!

Come Brother, Come Sisters, Come Mom and come Dad.
This must be the worst Christmas Mom ever had!

    Happy Holidays, everyone!
