I hate almost all commercials. I used to like the 9-Lives ones with Morris the Cat. And I like the Geico ones that use the barbarian guys. NOT the cavemen..Worst. Idea. Ever.

Most car commercials are annoying as hell, too. Sorry, most people are not going to drive their car through a swamp, OK? Oh, and the toilet paper ones. I refuse to buy Charmin because of those commercials.

The barbarians are a credit card company, not Geico. I tend to block the annoying ones from my memory, but there's a special hatred in me for commercials that sell through fear - ADT and the various 'push button health alarm ones leading the pack.

I hate the douchebag and his girlfriend for the Iphone or whatever cell phone commercial.

"I can tell you're playing video games, you're an avatar, you're wearing a gold chain and a fedora!" says the gf.

The douchebag then starts dancing in his chair, singing "Ima do my sexy thing....ya ya!"

Never really felt the desire to punch an avatar until now. Douchebag.

The only commercials I don't hate are from Old Spice and Jack in the Box.
There are many commercials I don't hate. Hell, I'm the son of an ad man, and the STEPson of an ad man as well. I grew up in marketing and advertising, and I appreciate and enjoy well-crafted commercials and advertising campaigns, of which there are quite a few. And they are out there. Which is what makes the really bad ones so damned annoying.

The barbarians (actually Vikings) are part of the Capital One ad campaign.

And while I don't mind the Geico cavemen ones, I hated the googly eye ones, and really enjoy the latest campaign with the guy asking, "Can you REALLY save 15% by switching to Geico?" And then asking another question.

Personally, I'm waiting for him to ask, "Does a bear REALLY shit in the woods?"

I don't have an issue with the well-done, intelligent, and rational ads for alarm companies. These companies have a service that many people want and some actually need, and if done tastefully, these ads can sell those services to those people. Sadly, many of the companies in this field DO resort to scare tactics, which is distasteful, to say the least.

There is an ad for Hardees and The Green Hornet that ticks me off. The two guys pull up to a Hardees and the guy taking the order says something to the effect of 'not you guys again, leave.' The GH guys hit a switch and a gun of some sort pops up from the car and the gto then asks them what they want. Good to know that Hardees thinks it is okay to air a commercial where their employee is threatened by a customer. In the first ad the GH guys destroyed the Hardees' drive-thru menu/order station.

The 28 Days commercial for Blockbuster. I can wait 28 days to rent from redbox just fine. Heck, I can wait a little longer and rent the movie from my local library for free. I just love how they make it seem like renting a movie is as important as getting dental work done or getting medical treatment after being bitten by a wild animal.

That Charmin ad with the bear singing about how it feels so right. I thought it was singing about sex too.

The 2011 Toyota Highlander ad where the kid is talking about how only cool parents/people drive that type of car and how he and the other kids are embarassed that their parents drive something else. See: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bfdA9Q1tSlg

I am with you, but sadly, a lot of people JUST CAN'T WAIT! to get the next big movie, and want it NOW! NOW! NOW! There are patient people like you and I, but this commercial is merely advertising about supply that is catering to a demand that exists. Don't believe me? Walk into any Blockbuster or other movie store and see how many copies they have of the Big New Release. And ask them how fast they sell out/rent out of those copies. You might be surprised to know it's FAST. Hell, ask anyone here who works at a video place!

To be fair, kids being embarrassed by what their parents drive is absolutely nothing new. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't embarrassed by a few of my parents' choices, especially the one we called The Jolly Green Giant. (1970 pea green Plymouth Fury Suburban station wagon. Hideous fucking beast of a car. Stalled at random times for indeterminate reasons. But you could fit a battalion of Marines in it!) Hell, I wouldn't be surprised if it went back to Roman times. "Oh Daaaad, I can't believe you're still driving THAT chariot. It's so 22 B.C.!"*

*(Yes, I know that no one in B.C. times would ever actually SAY "B.C.," as that is a point of time reference invented after that time period. It's a joke. Just go with it.)

I hate that Toyota commercial as well.

I was picked on a lot as a kid for wearing hand-me-down boys' clothes and our family having really crappy (and I mean, Jerry-Rigged poor man's fix-it cars) vehicles, but that commercial just strikes a big nerve with me.

I was never that embarrassed that I'd dive into the backseat. I just grew up to hate the rich kids and their fancy cars.

Often people will say: 'Ah, but the commercial got your attention'

Yes, attention about who I will not buy from...
Precisely! I, personally, am less likely to buy from a company that has really obnoxious commercials. I'm looking at you, Mesa Garage Doors!

This is what bugged me about those trashy Carl's Jr. ads too. Their sales still went up when those ads came out, in spite of how many people boycotted them for it.

Any commercial for a lameass product that uses a great rock song irritates me.
Ugh, so many good songs have been ruined by this! The one that's driving me crazy now is that casino using Boston's "More Than a Feeling"!

Any commercial where they repeat a phone number eight hundred fucking times in 30 seconds. This is worse on radio, but I have seen it on tv as well.
I thought I was the only one who was bothered by this! Or when the last part of the commercial is some asswipe rattling off the disclaimers, talking at about 100mph.

The one about Charmin toilet paper. The bear is singing obviously about sex, saying "When it feels right. I feels so good". Then it shows him sitting on the toilet. WTF?? What does toilet paper have to do with sex.
And this! This made me laugh simply because it's so bizarre! In case anyone wants to check this out: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8Kwg4esaWbs

Unfortunately, there are some funny commercials that don't stay around long because people get offended. Like this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TQrv6-viEUk

                        and Radio commercials

I skip TV commercials for one particular reason.

When DH and I waken in the morning, we always turn on the TV to our local 24 hour TV station to find out if there are any disruptions in the transit service, weather temp, etc.

It is inevitable that there are commercials (not the same ones for years, but they rotate for weeks) that will play at exactly the same time every freakin' day while we're getting ready and that freakin' jingle will go through my head my entire trip to work! (and no - it makes no sense to mute the TV during this - we're getting ready and not watching, but listening).

I'm stealing the "stabbity" term for now. It really makes me stabbity and not too nice towards the morons that stand on the escalators (we're not allowed to use the stairs in My Fair City in certain hours of the morning to get to the connecting train) and block everyone? (Please - is it so hard to know - walk left, stand right?)

Anyone who lives in my area of the world will know of the "Cash Man" and that freakin' jingle - Oh Yaaaaaa~...

So sorry to threadjack for a moment...

In my office, I also have my computer streamed to the area news station.

Of course the "news" is just regurgitated every 15 minutes or so, but it does provide background noise. /BG

                        Radio Commercials:

I HATE the current $5.00 FOOTLONG commercial they have on right now. Dangnabit - yes - we get it - it's $5.00 for a FOOTLONG!

As well - If I'm hearing it more than 5 times an hour, I'm assuming that you have the money to pay for the spots.

PLEASE - for all that is good in the world - pay for good voice actors!!!

                        Thanks,
No... Just No! And I mean it this time!

i think some advertisers are failed artists, directors or actors - so they try and get their crap out there - just shows their stupidity.

I once was surveyed by a store about their commercial, I told them that it was utterly stupid and made the comapny look like a gaggle of drunken geese.

Any commercial that says 'Call now and get this product absolutely free! Just pay shipping and handling!' bothers me. If you hafta pay shipping and handling fees, then it isn't exactly free, is it?

Also, I hate those Ally Bank commercials. The ones with that guy in the business suit and the kids and they always end with 'Even kids know it's wrong to (etc)'. They always leave me wanting to punch the guy in the teeth.

Sadly, you and I seem to be in the minority, as those obnoxious commercials are, apparently, effective. If they weren't effective, far less advertisers would resort to them!

To be fair, with a lot of products, the disclaimers are necessary, and since there aren't really regulations about the speed of said disclaimers, advertisers will often just rattle them off at breakneck speed to be able to say they put on those disclaimers in case of any future litigation. Frankly, I prefer the million mile an hour speakers to the commercials that spend close to half of their time at the end slowing explaining all the disclaimers. Shut UP already!

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the Nissan ad with the kid deliberately destroying all of his toy cars, except that the model Nissan is still shiny and intact at the end of the day. And Robert Downey Jr does the voiceover. Bad Iron Man, bad!
