OK, seriously, I think I should put 911 on speed dial... make things much more convenient. After last night I'm thinking I should go back to a more boring and possibly safer job... say nuclear bomb disposal tech...
So anyway this guy comes in and starts wandering around the lobby a bit... ok, not too unusual, there was a short line of people checking in and some people prefer to just wander around and wait for it to slow down rather than wait in line... I think it's weird, but not sucky (yet). Then I see him wander up the stairs, look down both directions of the upper hallway, come back downstairs and look down both directions of the hallway. At this point I figure, oh he must be waiting for a guest who is running late... he'll probably need me to connect him to a guest room, so I bring up my phone list so I'm ready... oh how naive I was...
me- Oh God why me
sc- seriously dude, take your meds... or stop doing drugs whichever is needed

SC- I caught him and I know you're in on it.
me- what?
sc- I'm not stupid there is no local number for Southwest. (oh, so you're the asshole who called in who kept insisting that I give you the local number for southwest... sadly it gets worse).
me- I'm sorry?
sc- I knew my brother had to be using some sort of code now I know what it is.
me-
sc- I saw his truck out there... I know he's here, now tell me which room he is in NOW.
me- I'm sorry, but I'm not allowed to give out that information. (besides, you never told me his name to be able to look it up if I wanted to moron).
SC- I know he's here with my wife, if you don't tell me where he is I will get you fired.
me- if I told you were he is I would be violating several different local and federal laws... I think my manager would take more kindly to you complaining about me than me violating the law.
sc- I've gotten people fired for this before, now tell we me where the my brother is you little punk. (wow, never been called a punk before... felt kinda good actually).
me- I'll take my chances.
sc- he's a wife stealing bastard, why the hell do you want to protect him.
me- he can be whatever he wants to be... as long as he is not violating any laws we are obligated to protect his privacy... and even if he is violating laws the only people who we will give that information to is law enforcement. At this point I will ask you to leave, if you do not do so of your own will, I will call the police to escort you off the property.
sc- well, I'm not leaving until I find my bastard brother... if you won't tell me I'll just have to find him myself.
at this point he just runs down the halls banging on random doors, yelling, cursing, insisting that his brother was there. also at this point I'm in the back office calling the police... which I hate having to do because it locks out my switchboard until I can clear it out. Oh yeah, and there was another guest in the lobby using the guest computer to check her email... I of course offered to let her hide in the back office rather than be out in the lobby or try making it back to her room... which she very wisely accepted. While all this is happening I hear an alarm go off on the alarm board... passkey tampering... yes, that's right, he had hit at least one door hard enough that he damaged the lock to the point where the alarm though someone was breaking in (well, close) which caused the outside security doors to go to secure mode (not that I mind... those should be set that way 24/7 anyway... I see no reason why if you don't have a key you should be using any door but the lobby door). Oh and during his tirade he ended up damaging one of the security doors so now it won't lock anymore (I've been working on not assigning people to the rooms that are close to it).
Ok, so he even comes back to the lobby, more threats, I inform him that police are on their way. He is actually happy about that... he thinks they will hear his story about his cheating wife and bastard brother and force me to tell him which room he is in. I being the evil person that I am said, "yes, they are on their way, if you would like to wait for them feel free to use the bench to the side of the lobby doors"
anyway, the police show up
slpd- is that the guy you called us about, on the bench swearing up a storm.
me- yeah, and he's calmed down since I called you.
slpd- that's calm?
me- compared to 5 minutes ago, yes.
slpd- and you just want him off the property.
me- yeah, we'd like him gone.
at this point one of the owners walks in... not because of the situation, I hadn't called him yet, he just likes to come in on busy nights to help out sometimes (I love our new owners)
owner- what the hell is going on.
me- that guy out there is convinced that his wife is her with his brother... wanted me to tell him what room they were in, and when I refused he went balistic.
owner- (to cop) can you make sure he never comes back.
slpd- yeah, what we can do is put him on a permanent trespass (don't remember the exact term)... basically this time his only punishment is he has to leave, but it will be similar to a restraining order so in the future if he even uses the parking lot as a short cut and he's caught he'll be taken to jail for felony trespass.
owner- do it.
slpd- sure thing.
Well, SLPD took about half an hour talking to this guy... making sure he understood just what he had gotten himself into... I think he was still confused as to why they weren't there helping him break down the door to his brother's room... but the owner decided that sense he was still there with the police it would be a good idea for me to do rounds on the hotel to see if there was any damage we could positively link to him (sadly the broken security door couldn't be linked to him sense it's the type of thing that can happen from normal wear and tear)... I'm not sure whether or not I'm disappointed that I could find any damage done by him.
Of course for the next half hour I got a dozen calls from people asking if it was safe to come out yet. But here's the conversation that made my day.
og- wow, you handled that well.
me- really, I thought I was going to piss my pants.
og- well you looked in control.
me- I used to work in a call center...
og- well that explains a lot, you get used to it there I suppose... only thing that would prepare you more for guys like that would be if you had worked for parking enforcement.
me-
og- what's so funny?
me- I did used to work for parking enforcement.
og- parking enforcement, call center, and now this without even breaking a sweet... you should be a cop.
me- no, after a youth of careers with excitement, I've decided that my long term career will be something boring, like accounting (which actually isn't that boring...the numbers are fascinating if you know how to read them).
anyway, guest goes back to her room, owner compliments me on keeping my cool, crazy dude leaves, and the shuttle driver/security person finally shows up (funny how he has a talent at making himself busy when this stuff happens).
and that was my first day back from vacation... lucky me.
