I have had the week from Hell. Just one rotten thing after another.
Last Friday afternoon, got into a fender-bender. I had the green light and was nearly through the intersection, the driver on my right wasn’t paying attention and went through the red. BAM! My bumper is plastic and wasn’t badly damaged (the other driver had worse damage on their bumper), but it is noticeably cracked. Made the report, contacted the insurance company, they were kind and helpful, but wanted me to get the car looked at.
Weekend, Monday, Tuesday, just all sorts of assorted nonsense. I get one task done, two more get piled on. Wasn’t able to take the car in because of it. I’m finally starting to catch up.
Wednesday, got a call from my mom. She’s been diagnosed with senile dementia. She’s the same age her mom was when she was diagnosed. I remember how it affected Grandma; her personality slowly ebbed away until she died. Now Mom has it. They’re putting her on medicine that should slow it down, but there’s no way to stop it or cure it. She’s in Arizona, I’m in Oregon and we haven’t been able to get our shots yet, but when we do, I’ll plan a trip to see her.
Thursday after work, I was headed to the post office. I had the green light, started to go through the intersection, and some fool crosses the street in front of me, against the signal. I hit the brake, she waves merrily at me and finishes crossing the street. I continue through, another jerk crosses in front of me, in the middle of the street. I hit the brake and the horn, he continues across, and once he’s clear of my path, I drive on. Glance in the rearview mirror and see him lying down and rolling on the street. He jumps up, races after my car, and of course I get stopped at the red light. He starts pounding on my window, screaming obscenities at me, claiming I could have hit him. Scared the hell out of me.
When the light turned green, I went around the block and back to my work, talked to my husband, we called the police non-emergency number and told them what had happened. The dispatcher said there had been no calls from that area, and that he sounded like a scammer. (I looked it up later; it's a very common scam.) She said she was sorry I went through that, but despite my call, there was no report made. And there were several people in the area; if I had indeed hit him, someone would have called in it. I also would have felt it if I had hit him, but he was well clear of me, I saw it.
This morning, we took my car in to the shop for the damage from Friday’s accident. Let the insurance companies and the repair shop deal with it. I am so done with this week. I spent the afternoon at home with a good book and a good cat, and did not leave the apartment.
