  • Pushy Questions & Books on "Learnin"

    First post here so I thought I'd make it 2 quick ones! These happened a little while ago but don't those sucky customers just stick to your brain and refuse to let you believe that people are good?

    SC= Man dragging his son along
    Me= Sweet bookstore employee

    SC pulls son up to counter
    Me: Hi, how can I help you?
    SC: Yeah I need some books for my son so he can learn things.
    Me: Um... Like a textbook for school? Or a book of general knowledge?
    SC: YOU KNOW! Books! Books for LEARNIN"

    Of course... THOSE books...

    PB = Pushy B****
    Me= Still me

    PB pushes in front of all the customers in my line at the register
    PB: Excuse me I just have a quick question
    Me: I'm really sorry, but you'll have to wait in line because I'm serving
    PB: But it's just a QUESTION
    Me: Okay... But you'll still have to wait in line...
    PB: Can't you just point me in the direction of the travel books?
    Me: Well it's towards the back of the store, so if you'll just wait I can show you
    (our store is very very big...)
    PB: JUST point it out to me
    Me (giving up): Okay then, it's there (points at the back of the store)
    PB: ... Oh... I'll wait...

    Some credit is due to Dad at least, as most parents would just take thier kid to the video game store and have them pick one out (like GTA IV)

      And then be livid that the game was violent, even though the store clerk probably warned them about it.

      Good first post.
      Excuse me, good sir paladin, can you direct me to your EVIL district?

          Daisychain, you have to tell us what you did with this one.

          Did you point out where the 'Learnin Section' was located in your store?

                I can see this same father dragging his kid into a dealership when the boy's sixteen.

                Car dealer: Can I help you?"

                SC: I need a car for my son to drive.

                Car Dealer: Okay, what kind of car were you looking for?

                SC (getting irate): Cars! You know, cars for drivin!!

                    I did end up taking him down to the kids educational section and stood there with him for a really long time going through every type of book (math, science, english, nature etc.) trying to work out what he wanted. He seemed quite confused.

                    Thanks for the welcomes everyone

                      Reminds me of a conversation I had with a co-worker once
                      CW: hey you're always reading books can I borrow one sometime?
                      Me: Sure what kind of book are you after?

                          Oh boy, welcome to the board DaisyChain, wonderfull first post I don't know whether to await for more stories or cringe away from it, I beleive clerks at bookstores, specially literate clerks at a bookstore live in a form of hell I don't wish onto anyone. (probably equiparable to the hell some teachers must go thorough nowadays)

                            Should've tried to get him to purchase a whole set of encyclopedias, especially if you're on commission.
