Default Just look behind you

One day while working on the cash register a man comes up to me and asks where we have our tea candles. I point him over to where we have a huge red sign that says candles. After a couple minutes the man comes back with his tea candles and I ask him if he found them okay.

His reply (snappy mean voice): No, I had to ask someone else. The tea candles weren't in the candle section.

I'm thinking: I just saw them there.

My relpy: Oh I'm sorry, they must have been moved.

After he leaves: The person he asked came up to me and told me the candles were right behind him, she just told him to turn around.

Translation: The candles were exactly where you said they were, but he didn't see them immediately and was totally embarrassed when the lady told him to look behind him, so rather than grow up and admit his error, he's taking his irritation out on you!

That, or you didn't personally escort him to the tea candles, and when arriving at the candle aisle, the tea candles did not immediately begin a song and dance routine to point out exactly where on the aisle they were. Or worse, you didn't go fetch examples of all tea candles in the store, bringing them to him, so he wouldn't have to even walk to the aisle.

No, no, "not in the same section" means "not on the exact same shelf as the first candles that I saw, which then became 'all the candles in the store,' rendering me incapable of looking around even a little bit. If I can't find what I want with the absolute minimum of effort, this store has failed."

What a twit.
