Back story: I volunteer to trim dogs' nails at various locations of the place I work, to raise money for the dog rescue I volunteer with. Sometimes I get some interesting characters, like today.
A couple brought their 15lb terriery type mix in for a nail trim. I asked my usual "Has he/she had their nails trimmed before? How do they do?" I get the response of, "Oh, she does just fine!'. Okay, cool. Oh boy, was I in for a surprise.
I finish the back feet with minimal trouble, then scoot back to work on her front paws. When I scooted back, my vision was suddenly filled with TEETH, as the dog lunged for my face for a real bite. Not just a warning snap, the dog intended to do damage. The gal who was holding the dog thank goodness was able to yank it back in time.
I muzzled the dog, but even through the muzzle it was trying to bite anything that came near it. After about a minute, I knew this wasn't going to happen and informed the dogs' owner that she should probably go to the vet to have this done safely. The owner looked angry, but she didn't even look at me. Without a word, and before I could tell her to give the dog a few seconds to calm down before doing so, she yanked the muzzle off the dog. Dog turned and bit her 3 times and hung on for about 5-10 seconds before said owner was able to shake her off. Still, not a word, and not sparing us a glance she storms out, dragging the dog behind her.
I'm not sure about you guys, but that's not exactly my idea of a dog who's "fine" with getting their nails trimmed....
