The college program I'm in -- Pharmacy Technician -- has instituted a new test this year: it's a six-question "quizlet" about dispensing quantities. You must get 100% on it, and you get three chances. If you don't manage to pass this, you don't go on to the next semester.
It's simple math. Even I can do it. And yet I've bombed out on the quizlet twice: the first time because of a stupid math error, but the second time because of the wording of the question. Probably half the group making that second attempt lost out on that exact same question, for the exact same reason.
We had 10 minutes for the second attempt. It sounded worse than it was, given the simplicity of the math involved, but ... I thought I heard the teacher say we will have 5 minutes for this third attempt. If true, that's less than a minute per question, with virtually no chance to double-check your answers.
At this point I'd be almost relieved not to succeed at the final attempt. The primary course this semester was taught by Satan's Sister and her evil twin -- they refused to answer questions, saying, "You should already know that." It's been a pretty gawdawful experience and I can't see that it's worth another year and a half of stress to get a minimum-wage job.
In fact, I already have an alternate program picked out.
The downside is that it would add one more year to the time I spend in school, which at my age is probably not a great idea. It would also mean six months of trying to find a second job in a city with the highest unemployment levels in the country (although I do have one thing going for me -- at least, so far -- in that I am already working, even if it's only parttime ...)
So I will do my best and see what happens.
Sometimes I swear, they are trying to whittle down the class to the lowest double-digit levels possible!
