  • Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergancy on my part

The tittle of this thread is a quote a friend of mine says at work all the time when people call up at the last minute needing to get things done. But it fits with the SC I had at another job.

Working at a concert venue a lot of the bands will do VIP meet and greet where you pay extra in order to meet the band get an autographer and possisbly steal a quick pic. Some bands do it before the show others do it after the show, no matter when the meet and greet is done the people willing to pay extra for it are given instructions on exactly what they need to do. Pretty simple right? yeah I wish.

One paticular concert the meet and greet was to be held before the show, the instuctions each "VIP" was given stated to pick up your tickets and VIP passes from the will call window and be ready waiting at the front doors by 6:30 with your tickets and passes in hand. So here is what happend sorry it's kinda long.

    Me: well yeah me
DS: Director of Security (aka by boss)
OS: special guest star another security co-worker
    SV: Sucky VIP

I was walking into the security office when a gentelman came walking up to one of the other security officers

SV: I paid for the meet and greet where do I?
OS: Hold on let me check *turns to DS* Hey DS where do they go for the meet and greet?
DS: The letter they got says to meet at the front doors at 6:30
OS: Ok *turns to SV* you need to meet at the front doors at 6:30
SV: But I still need to pick up my tickets.
OS: Well those are going to be at will call see the window over there with the sign that says "Will Call" over it you will need to go over there to pick up your tickets.
SV: But there is a huge line and it is already 6:25 how am I supposd to be ready by 6:30,
    OS: *shrugs shoulders*
SV: I want to talk to your boss you have been no help. (figures pulling the boss card)
OS: *leans head into office*Hey DS there is someone over here that would like to speak to you.
DS: Hi what can I help you with?
SV: *shoves letter into DS face* I paid for VIP meet and greet passes and now I am being told I have to wait in the line over there to pick up my tickets it 6:25 this letter said to be here by 6:30 I need my tickets now.
DS: *pretends to read letter* actually the letter says to be READY by 6:30 not to get here at 6:30, your tickets are at will call you will need to stand in line like everyone else. *hands letter back to SV and walks back into office*

    Two minutes pass

OS: yeah princess I have some guy standing out here asking to talk to a supervisor can you take care of this.
Me: *walks out to see the same guy standing out side the door* Hi sir what seems to be the problem.
SV: *shoves the same letter in my face* I paid for VIP meet and greet passes and I expect to meet the band.
Me: *playing stupid to the argument 2 minutes earlier* Well sir the people with the meet and greet passes will be meeting at the front doors at 6:30 and then they will be escorted to where they are meeting the band. You will need to take your ticket and your pass and wait by the front door.
SV:I don't have my ticket yet
Me: Well the letter you got said your tickets can be picked up at the Will call window which is right over there *points to will call*
SV: Do you realize it is 6:27 the meet and greet is in 3 minutes
Me: Well then what are you doing over here you should be inline to get your tickets.
SV: That line is a mile long I don't have time to stand in that line I paid more for my ticket then these people paid for there’s so I should be able to walk up and not wait in line.
Me: Sir some of the people in that line have been here since 4 o'clock in order to make sure they got there tickets on time, and who are you to say that they didn't purchase the VIP passes as well?
SV: I paid for VIP I should be treated like VIP this paper says be here by 6:30 I am here before 6:30 there for I followed the instructions
Me: Your letter says to be ready by 6:30.
SV: Well I didn't plan on there being a line at will call
Me: Lack of planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on my part
SV: let me talk to your boss!!!!!
Me: *holding back laughter* sure hold on a minute *starts talking into radio* hey DS the same gentleman you where just speaking to is asking to talk to you again can you step outside?
DS: On my way tell him though that the more he argues with me the less likely he is to be prepared for the meet and greet.
Me: Copy*turns to SV* he is on his way out even though you talked to him earlier
DS walks out and I walk away to take care of the other VIP's that are ready for the meet and greet. A couple minutes later I hear on my radio to walk up and down the will call line and see if there is anyone else with VIP meet and greet passes that are waiting in line and move them to the front.

Dang it the SV got his way, it also turned out that one of the band members was this guys nephew so he didn't pay more then everyone else for his passes he was on the guest list.

Argh! Now I'm having flashbacks. I used to hate hate hate meet and greets before shows for this exact reason. We didn't have a seperate VIP window either and no way to divide out the VIP's will call to walk the line with them.
I'm kinda shocked he didn't pull the "but I'm family" card right off the bat.

I don't get it...why the hell is he bitching about VIP passes if he's on the guest list? He should be bitching that he's on the guest list and why is he still outside? Why not just call his nephew...oh, wait, nephew was probably busy with Meetin' and Greetin'

The more you hang around these boards the more you will come across this line

Sadly, I've never had the opportunity to actually use it.
