Picture if you will the following:

    * Guy in his late teens.
    * Hates the Twilight Series, but wants something similar.
    * Can't show him stuff like Vampire Kisses, The Academy, and the other Vampire stuff that is geared towards girls.
    * Hates the Vampire Books you recommend to him, from Anne Rice to Laura Hamilton to Bram Stoker. Oh, and ditto to virtually all of Sci-Fi/Fantasy.
    * Manga/Comics is out, so that eliminates Hellsing, Blood +, Rosario Vampire, Trinity Blood, and Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter.
    * After harassing the rest of the staff with his stoned-out attitude and refusals of everything he's been suggested, settles on City of Bone.

Geez, you come in and rebuff all of our suggestions and waste our time? And this is why I hate people sometimes.

Next time, suggest "Carmilla" by Joseph Sheridan Le Fanu. Tell it him has lesbian vampires.

        'Cause it does.

Maybe something "like it" in the way that Bleach is "like" DBZ, or Jigoku Shoujo is "like" Utena, or maybe even so far as Shuffle! is "like" Tenchi Muyo! (right down to the bang being part of the title).

Yet I like (and watch) Bleach. But I hate (despise) DBZ.

            I <3 Trinity Blood!!!

Granted, I haven't read that much of the manga, but the anime was one of the most beautifully painted things I've ever seen. Seriously.

Plus, it's post-apocalyptic Vatican fighting Rosicrucian vampires. There is no bad there.

I was tempted to show him Kushiel's Legacy and be done with it.

I have a question, sorry if it's off topic, but is Twilight directed towards females? Considering that no guy I know has read the series, I would assume so, but The Fountainhead is directed at females [Howard Roark is not designed to capture a male audience] and I enjoyed it. Yeah, different genres, but I'll read most things, my favourite pieces of written materials (notice how I don't say stories/books/novels), in no specific order:
                1) The Fountainhead
                2) The Cathedral and the Bazaar
                3) Vision Green

You should have suggested Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

I've read a lot of vampire books, and I can't remember the title of any. *sigh* Though I think "I am Legend" would fit...or War of the Worlds. The Martians suck the blood out of humans.

Ok, I havn't read any of the books you mentioned. I feel out of it, and I work in a library!

I present you with Twilight as summarized by Shinga, artist and writer of Head Trip.

                      http://shinga.livejournal.com/478415.html

22 pages to read, some longer than others. Most of it funny. Not for lovers of the series.

i know nothing of anime or manga (my gf is trying to teach me)

but shit at that point I'd have suggested The Hardy Boys

cause really who doesnt enjoy a 50 year old mystery series?

Hehe, I'm up to chapter 7. I have no intention of ever reading the books (not into teen vampires) but this is funny.

oooo yeah, start him out with Kushiel's dart! I'm sure he'll be begging for more afterwards. i'm personally waiting for the 3rd book from the second trio to come out in paperback

i know a couple of guys who like twilight (straight men too). then again they were doing the audio book version. I highly recommend listing to it, the woman they had reading bella has a wonderful voice (Ilyana Kadushin).
