... for some reason, it seems to happen more in the summer.
"S/He'll freeze to death!" is a much more common expression than heat related turns of phrase...

I'd like to say "there ought to be a law..." but endangering the child/pet by leaving them in that kind of heat would be covered under different laws...

Last summer at a craft show on a hot sunny day, my wife and I walked by a car in the parking lot with a small dog inside. A rear window was broken, and a policeman was standing there waiting for the owner to return. We were pleased to have seen karma in action.

I'm waiting for the the first news report of someone leaving their kid in the car here.
It happens. May G_d have mercy upon us.

... I always wanted to take my cat on a roadtrip. She hates being in a carriage, but she loved car rides when she wasn't locked up in a cage.
Do you think she would tolerate a car harness? I bought one for the dogs since we can only fit one crate in the car.

we've had reports of young children/babies left in cars during the summer; sadly, almost all had the predictable ending...
            look! it's ghengis khan!
Sorry, but while I can do many things, extracting heads from anuses isn't one of them. (so sayeth the irv)

Oh, I know. It happens every year here. I'm just waiting for the first one of this year. I'm kind pleasantly surprised that there hasn't been one since we've been at 100F or higher the last three days. People seem to forget that we live in a desert.

Nobody should ever leave a kid or an animal alone in a car, but for some reason, it seems to happen more in the summer.
More often than not, it's the change in routine during the summer months more than anything else that leads to children being left in cars (when it's accidental).

The ones that do it on purpose, however, deserve swift and terrible karmic retribution for their selfishness.

I actually read a news report about this in the local paper... With the baby left in the car thing, what often happens is that something different pops up in the parent's routine, and with the baby often falling sleep between home and what SHOULD be the sitter, combined with the stress of something off in the daily routine(Like, say, Mom usually takes Jr. to the sitter, then runs to work. One day, Mom has to run an errand before work, and Jr.'s fallen asleep... Mom runs the errand, forgetting that Jr. is back there, gets to work... And then comes out later... )... The parent ends up forgetting the baby, but not by their own fault D: I think it was three families highlighted in the article... The deaths of the babies were ruled accidents(Again, because there was a sudden change to the usual routine), and the parents were so heart-broken by what had happened D:

As for the poor dog... That's not a case of genuinely having something screw with the routine, but instead.. That was out-right neglect DX That woman's never lived in a place with no AC, with no power due to a brown-out in the middle of August, has she? It's hard enough for PEOPLE to regulate temperature in a situation like that, especially in the southern United States - In Hampton Roads alone, we HAVE hit the upper 90's... Before humidity is added to the equation, then we get into the triple digits. People can sweat to relieve themselves of the heat. Dogs can't. Even though they're not technically allowed in the store, it makes me happy for that reason that people choose to bring their dog in with them instead of leaving it out in their car in the summer.

You shouldn't let her ride out of a cage. Not only can the cat get injured but it might run off if you are in an accident.

I've got to do some shopping tomorrow while traveling with the cat in the car but I plan on going as fast as possible and my fiancee will stay in the car with the AC on. I can't stand people who think their pets should suffer for their convenience.

She wasn't suffering at all. She was purring and looking out the window the entire time, as compared to being in the carriage where she was crying and peeing in fear.

We've got people that are fully aware that the kid is in the car, but, because the little one has fallen asleep, they go on in the store (or the casino on several occasions) anyway, because they don't want to wake the kid. My former friend did this a couple of times that I know of. Which is one of the reasons that she's a "former" friend.

That kinda stuff drives me crazy. My own mother drags her dog everywhere but never anyplace she can't take him in with her. I'm not a big pet person but it's very cruel. I hate it even more when its children. A woman here in Detroit left her child in the summer heat for THREE HOURS to get her hair weaved. Needless to say the child didn't survive. I never leave anything I care about in the car! I even take my GPS with me because I don't want it damaged. Some people just don't think.
