Thank you, everyone It really does help.
Eireann -- Yeah. My father passed away about a decade ago (he and mom divorced when I was a kid, he never remarried), and I had similar things going on then. It kinda helped and kinda didn't that we had relatives & friends calling us just every so often to relay their best wishes...As in, literally my brother and I would talk with someone on the phone who gave their best wishes, setting us both off and upset as a result, and then we'd calm down after a few minutes, then the phone would ring again. Rinse and repeat oh, for a good chunk of the afternoon.
What probably didn't help either is the fact that I apparently sound a LOT like my dad on the phone -- and one of the last calls was from his sweet lady friend. I picked up and said hello, and she instinctively said his name (even though she already knew what happened). Before I could respond, she had a gasp of realization and hung up. o_O
Back to the present: We spent most of yesterday making arrangements per my mother's wishes – she had the foresight to put together a box with all of her vital papers (birth cert, social sec/medical info), bills & info needed to access and cancel her accounts (all on autopay), and funeral desires (location, pastor, songs, flowers, etc) a decade ago, so, oddly, it helped us focus to go out and obey her wishes yesterday. Took our minds off of it all, and now it's all arranged. Funeral is in a week.
Thank you, again, for all of your support. If I'm not around much for the next week or so, this is why
