  • Girls Just Wanna Have Fun...in a minor key?? o_O

    Came out quite nicely, actually.

Note -- Song is transposed from a Major to a Minor key, rearranged for guitar & three voices, and slowed down a bit. Even if it was just a straight transposition, it would have had a similar effect, I think.

If you have no idea what I'm talking about, check out his Star Spangled Banner one; he explains the idea a bit. That one is much closer to a straight transposition.

Interesting. The last few bars of the guitar intro remind me of another song... Not that I can remember right now.

Projects like this make me want to take more theory classes. I've taken a few, both on my own and as part of choir/voice development, but that was a long time ago.

EDIT: also, goes to show you that not all bubblegum pop is without elegance. The harmonies and chord progressions are simple, but carry an emotional weight reminiscent of certain old-school jazz & blues.

I'm not sure what I think about that. Maybe if they'd chosen a different key signature (sounds like either C or B major? I can't pin the opening chords) for Nothing Else Matters...
