Maybe. Jerks and bullies have always been around. But I'd think if someone acted like that out in public back then, someone else would've had the guts to scold them (or punch them out, if needed), instead of just standing around like "am I actually seeing this?!" Society wasn't so lawsuit-happy back then, and if you acted like an ass, you got yours handed to you.

I also don't think shop keepers and corporations would have tolerated such abuse back then. Profits have always been important, but the 'profit at any cost' mentality of the current age has really gotten out of hand.

My father worked in a grocery store almost 50 years ago. My mother in law worked as a waitress at a resort a little more than 50 years ago. Both had plenty of SCs and absolutely no place to vent about them.

I'm inclined to agree with that. From what I heard from my Mom (who worked for various retail and drug stores back in the late 60's/early 70's) people didn't act as crass and rude and obnoxious as they do now.
