It really does amaze me just how much people spend on weddings. My wife and I had a nice, comfortable wedding and spent just over $3,000, and that included dress, church, cake, and an afternoon reception for 75 people. In contrast, my mother in law spent more than that on appetizers when she married her 3rd husband 2 weeks before my wife and I's wedding. Then there's my sister in law, who "got a bargain" on her dress at "only" $4200 and spent over $20,000 on her reception. Gimme a justice of the peace and a new car, thank you very much.
