The inventory manager J spoke to me a few weeks ago about poaching me from the front end. I'd helped her out with pulling/placing tags before, and am the only person she doesn't need to babysit so she trusts me with learning the rest of the job. My name had come up before when she first found out P (her helper) was leaving at the end of this year. The only time I'd be on the floor is tagging, and a lot of it is computer work; the only area in the store that runs on logic (as she put it).
Today I finally met with her to discuss the duties, schedule requirements, etc. and I should be able to start with her next week. ASM isn't going to be happy about 'losing' me, but I don't have to worry about telling him (SM will handle everything and what J wants, J gets). We have so few people capable of running self-scan I can probably continue with that as well if needed.
