Okay, so background, there is a tendency of those who work in the larger resorts to view locals casinos as being inferior in every way. There is a stereotype (not helped by the fact that in many cases it is true) that locals casinos cater to the addicts. I work in one of the locals casinos that doesn't cater to the addicts.
Onto the story, at game night.
Me: So glad to be off work finally, the backlog from having to cover count was horrible.
AF (Arrogant friend): Oh, I know, I hated doing that at (resort).
Me: I didn't realize that they pulled from players club to do that?
AF: Yeah, they do.
Me: Yeah, getting caught up on an extra two days of food and beverage on top of what's left of the backlog from before I started is going to be the death of me (not true, I'm actually already through it all, but this was a few days ago )
AF: I know someone looking for a job, where is you work again, I can let them know that they are looking for count team members.
Me: It's (locals casino).
AF: Oh, I'm not that familiar with your side of town, where is that again?
Me: It's (gives general directions).
AF: Wait, it's that place? The way you described your work it sounded like you worked at a nice place, not a dump like that. How do they even have restaurants for you to do the accounting on.
Me: Umm... it's not that small, it has at least as much floor space as some of the smaller full service resorts.
AF: What drugs are they selling out of the back to be able to afford to pay you and run a casino that large? Surely there aren't that many addicts to support a facility that large.
Me: Umm... most gamblers are older middle class people who can afford the entertainment and enjoy the ups and downs and know that it is fairly likely they are going to lose money rather than win.
AF: Yeah, at real resorts, but everyone knows that locals who gamble are all addicts.
Me: Umm... you realize I gamble occasionally, right?
AF: No you don't, you have too nice of stuff to be a gambler.
Me: Right, if you are done insulting my work and questioning my monetary choices in life, can we get on with the game?
AF: I didn't insult your work, I just pointed out that I had no idea that you worked at a...
Game Master: Enough, AF, shut up, I've been to the restaurants where Smiley works, they are actually quite good. And being that your resort has been caught aiding in check fraud before, you have no room to talk about how superior your job is simply because there is a hotel attached.
