    And I already hate her.

I work in a small hotel in a small town. We have no concierge here, and I certainly am not one. In addition, we are not affiliated with the casino nearby (they have their own hotel), or with the taxi company.

So why, dear caller, do you expect me to know the details of their player's club (needed to get a free shuttle, otherwise they charge), how much the taxi from here to the casino will be, or anything else about the casino or shuttle? And she calls for this information at two in the morning, when the person who knows the least about the daylight world is on shift. Each time I answer that I'm not sure don't know, she gets more condescending.

Then, once I have called the taxi service to get an estimate on how much it is one way and she calls back, then she starts to haggle rates. First, by bringing up how she used to come here when the old owners (gone two years because they defaulted on their loan for the hotel and let it fall to pieces) ran the place and how she stopped because they weren't here anymore. And how they always gave her a good deal. Then, by bringing up a third party service we all hate because they have sucky security (a former coworker was able to call them up and get himself listed as the primary contact, over the NEW OWNERS, no verification, nothing) and always side with the guests on complaints (oh, they want to cancel at ten the night of their arrival? Well, they've lodged a formal complaint against you!). Obviously, sucky service had a better rate.

Thankfully for my sanity, once that's mentioned I am allowed to give them said rate because we make more money on the reservation when we don't have to pay a commission out of it. So once I explain that I can't give her the price they have listed for a king room (she wanted queen, has two beds, costs more) and we get that hashed out, I have to explain that the price is before tax (which it says clearly). She wants the price after tax, grumps at me while I'm trying to run the math (easy stuff, halve the first number, stick it into the nightly part on the reservation form that I thankfully hadn't closed, get the amount).

And then of course says she'll call back tomorrow to book. Even though she'd have a fully day to cancel free if she needed to. Can't book now, no... of course not. That would be sensible and convenient.

Hey, Did you get lucky? Did all the Queen rooms get booked before the imbecile called back? Curious minds want to know.

I'm hoping _every_ room got booked! "So sorry, you snooze you lose!"

If all the rooms are booked when she calls back, she'll just say you PROMISED her a room. Ughh.
When you start at zero, everything's progress.
