  • Take a Look at What Landed Here Yesterday.

So, not every trip to the airport involves illegally parked cars, went out there yesterday afternoon when I heard this was coming into town. And by "heard" I mean I heard the engines while hanging out in the back lot and instantly knew what it had to be.

It's the B-17 "Sentimental Journey" of the Commemorative Air Force, one of the 10 or so flying examples left. Spent the afternoon just admiring it.

Wow! A piece of history, still operational and nicely kept up. I don't blame you for stopping to admire it.

I like the Betty Grable pic on the side!

Beautiful! We had one at Burke Lakefront Airport for a few days last week (might have even been the same one). I thought it was in for the airshow this coming weekend, but it was gone by Saturday.

We've had one up on some sort of supports over the gas pumps at a station in oone of the suburns here since shortly after the war. "The Bomber" gas station has been a local landmark longer than I've been alive.

Last week they took it down. Apparently the plane has been sold to some group that is going to restore it.

I may have to drag my butt up to Willow Run one of these days. The old bomber plant there is largely disused now, but the Yankee Air Museum is still there, and they have one of those B-17s, according to their website.

I live near the Willow Run Airport in Ypsilanti. I hear the B-17 every so often. They also have a B-25 and C-47. They are in the process of buying a chunk of the bomber plant so that they can turn it into their museum. They also have a static B-52, F-4 Phantom and a few other planes. It's kind of cool.
