  • My Pillow

The as-seen-on-TV pillow with the vaguely creepy-looking pitchman. Is it worth it? Does it support your head and neck so you don't wake up tired with headaches?

I go through pillows like nuts. If it's better than the pillows I usually buy at the store I might snag one on Black Friday The Day Formerly Known As Thanksgiving.

It depends on the shape and weight of your head, the way you sleep, the shape and structure of your neck and shoulders, and exactly what pressure differentials give you headaches or free you from headaches.

You might find an occupational therapist helpful. Or the kind of salesperson who enjoys developing a specialised knowledge of his product: I know they exist, we have some here!

Edit to add: if you get head/neck tension headaches, a massage specialist who does therepeutic massage, or a physiotherapist who does therepeutic massage and can give you exercises and stretches for the relevent muscles, may do you wonders. If they seem to work on your upper and mid back as well, that's normal: trapezius is all interrelated and it's your spine-to-shoulders muscle that starts from the small of your back and continues up to your skull.

    1. Would you rather be right, or get the result you want?
    2. If you're consistently getting results you don't want, change what you do.
    3. Deal with the situation you have now, however it occurred.
    4. Accept the consequences of your decisions.

The funny 'J' shaped pillow? I am a side and stomach sleeper and yes it does support my head and neck, and I don't wake up with a sore neck based headache when I use it.

I have been thinking of blending pillow types and making a custom buckwheat j shaped pillow, I like a good solid pillow and a good hard bed.

The title of the thread reminds me of Rhett and Link's pillow song (2 guys 600 pillows)
        Random conversation:
Me: Okay..so I think I get why Zoro wears a bandana
        DDD: Cuz it's cool

So, by using the Doctor's reasoning, bow ties, fezzes and bandanas are cool.

I get close to the same impact with a King sized pillow.

I prefer goose down pillows, but they are expensive. But a good quality one can last for a couple of years.

Irv: the kind of pillow you use really does depend on the kind of sleeper you are. There are three basic types: back sleepers, side sleepers, and stomach sleepers.

There are three sizes of pillows, and three types of firmness. Standard, queen, and King. Soft, medium, and firm (hard).

Stanard and Queen doesn't offer much difference in comfort for the sleeper. King sized pillows can be useful for the side or stomach sleepers.

Soft is best for stomach sleepers; you can mold them to fit how you turn your head for best support.

Medium is best for back sleepers to provide the best head/neck support.

Firm is best for side sleepers; they support your back or stomach depending on which way you lean. This is why I like King sized pillows.

Most people have a preference in how they sleep. Some people switch between one or two or even all three (I am in the latter category). You should buy your pillow based on how you think you sleep the most. You can consider buy two different types of pillows to see how they work for you.

I learned all this the hard way But once I figured out what worked for me a lot of my neck and back pain went away, and my headaches also were greatly reduced. I wake refreshed and ready for the day
