  • Looking for advice

So I'm currently on the search for what is hopefully a second job, and my roommate told me that the local college is looking for a receptionist for at least one of the departments. I'm definitely going to put in a resume and application, but I'm hitting a bit of a wall. I've never done receptionist work work before, the closest I've gotten has been phone answering and some filing type things.

What should I emphasize on resume, and what kind of questions should I prep myself to answer if I'm lucky enough to get an interview? My current job is retail, and the one before that was work at an animal shelter, so I feel like I'm flying blind
-I feel like I need to take a long shower and contemplate where I went wrong in my life to end up here
    -But what if skeletons?

Experience in things like direct customer interaction/customer service, knowing how to type/use Word & Excel, using a filing cabinet (filing and phones are often a significant part of any Admin type work) and (*gasp*) actually knowing how to spell are all useful things to put on there. You can't really list that last one directly, so just be very careful with the spelling/wording on the resume, and have a knowledgeable friend or two double-check it for you. Few things will kill a resume faster than one for a "must know how to spell/type" position that has blatant spelling and grammar errors. Include a brief cover letter to showcase that part of your skillset.
