I am from a small town too. That is why they keep asking. In a city, you are alone surrounded by tens of thousands (if not millions) of people. In a small town, you see the same people everyday and, much like family, you can not avoid interacting with them.

It is a wired dynamic, I know people who can not stand living in a small town, but others (like myself) who can not stand living in a shity city. (darn, I still mispronounce that word )

Its a country thing.
