  • No, you DO need a computer for that.

I'm selling a number of items online after my yard sale last weekend.

One of them is a laser printer. Gal contacts me, wants to buy. Great! I give her my address. She shows up.

She wants to know if she must hook it up to a computer to use it.

Me: Uhm, yes. It's a printer.

Customer: But can you just run a page through it and print something.

Me: No, it's a printer. YOu have to have it connected to a source. What you want is an all in one, a printer that is also a copier and a scanner.

Customer: But it looks like it lifts here *pulls on top of printer to reveal the toner cartridge*

    Me:

Needless to say, I handed her her money back.

Wow, and I thought the people I talk to are clueless!

"Your ad will also appear on our website."

    "But I don't have a computer."

"That's fine, people who read the paper online will see your ad."

"But how will they contact me if I don't have a computer?"

"Uh...your phone number that you put in the ad?"
When you start at zero, everything's progress.

For future reference, most printers are able to print a test page without being hooked up to anything. The manual will tell you which button or buttons to press to do that.

It's OK; I deal with at least a half-dozen people per week who, upon being told that they need to access something online, say "But I don't have Internet!"

This would be completely fine and well, if I were not referring them to something regarding the smart phone that they have in their hand-the very thing that I sold to them a few months ago so that they would have access to the Internet.

Maybe she was looking for a copier and not a printer, or maybe she's OCD and likes printing nothing but Network status pages.
