So I've been on a Fosse kick (pun intended) lately, and watched three movies of his: Damn Yankees, The Pajama Game, and All That Jazz. All three were quite good, although I think I prefer All That Jazz. Before now, all I'd seen of his were The Little Prince, Cabaret, Chicago, and Sweet Charity.

Oh, that's funny--I suddenly remembered having seen Air-otica in my first college dance class and looked it up on youtube. This was 2 days ago. I hadn't known it was in a movie. I've never seen any of the movies, actually. Here's my take on Air-otica, as I elaborated in an explanatory email:
It's
supposed to be erotic, but of course I'm paying more attention to the
fantastic technique of the dancers. I've done some of those steps and
it looks much easier than it is. And yet, you feel like you're
flying, which is interesting given that they are supposed to be a
flight crew. It's from the movie All That Jazz and this is where Bob
Fosse is proposing a show to a group of investors. It's funny,
actually. "I think we just lost the Family Audience." It's also a
commentary on human connectedness; how we can be hurtling through the
air in a metal tube in close quarters, and yet most people just sit
quietly and don't acknowledge the other people. I always think about
that when flying, that if the plane crashed that would change
instantly. Anyway, Fosse puts them figuratively in a situation that
is the ultimate human contact: sex. It's a very interesting piece
and proves dance does not have to be boring."Is it hot in here to you? It's very warm, isn't it?"--Nero, probably

I did find that piece to be quite interesting and a bit surreal; but what got me the most was the hospital hallucinations, especially Who's Sorry Now, and the song that his daughter Michelle sang. That hit home for me, since I've lost my own dad. In fact, I've been toying with watching this movie for a few months because of that, and only decided to actually watch it the other day, and am glad I did.
