For my part time job I currently work the front desk at a community center (kinda like a YMCA). One day I had a man come up to the front desk my a young boy, probably about 4-5.
F=fater
SB=scared boy
M=me
F: Tell him what you did
(son come up to the desk with the most pathetic "deer in the headlights")
SB: I was in the locker room and I was playing and I broke this.
(hands me on of those cheap $.05 plastic hangers that he had snapped in half)
M: I see. . . are you sorry?
SB: yeah
M: Will you be more carefull next time?
SB: uh-huh
M: That's ok bud, thanks a lot for telling me, just be a little more careful, ok?
SB: (looking REALLY relieved) ok!
How sad is it that i wanted to buy this father a drink? I've worked at this place for 7 years now, so I've seen parent's letting their kids get away with a LOT of crap. The fact that this guy actually made his son take accountability for his actions, something that as a parent EVERYONE should do, gave me the warm fuzzies. Wish I saw more people like him.
