You are not getting food. GO AWAY

We stop serving food at 10pm. The kitchen are pretty much closed, all they have to do is wait for 10pm, and then they can go home.

Customer comes up to the bar.

SC: I want food.

I look at the clock. 9:58pm

Me: Hmm, I might be able to do you a sandwich or something like that, but nothing big, what would you like?
SC: I want six burgers, four with onion rings...
Me: Oh no, I'm really sorry, I can't do that.
SC: Why not?
Me: It is far too late to make an order of that size. Everything in that kitchen is turned off and cleaned, they would have to turn everything back on, cook, serve, turn it off, wait for it to cool down and then clean again. They will end up being here for about an extra hour, which they probably won't get paid for.
SC: I want food.
Me: I'm sorry, it's too late.
SC: Fine. I will go to your co-worker!

He walks down the bar.

SC: Can I have...
CW: I'll be with you in a moment sir, I'm just in the middle of serving someone.

He walks back to me. He looks at me as if he hasn't seen me before.

SC: Can I have six burgers, four with onion rings...
Me: We just had this conversation. And it has now passed 10pm, the kitchen staff are going home now.

The SC storms away.

Five minutes later, he returns. AGAIN, he looks at me like he hasn't seen me before.

SC: Can I have six burgers, four with onion rings...
Me: We've stopped serving food.
SC: You've stopped serving food?
Me: Yes we have.
SC: If I ask for food, you have to feed me.
Me: All kitchen food has stopped, all we have are bar snacks like crisps or nuts...
SC: Are they hot?
Me: No, they come in a packet.
SC: OK, I don't want those, I want six burgers, four with onion rings...
Me: We've stopped serving food.
SC: Are you sure? It says here you serve til 10pm.
Me: And it is now nearly 10:10pm.

At this point, the kitchen staff are finished and are drinking at the end of the bar!

SC: So that's after you've stopped serving food?
Me: Yes it is.
SC: Oh. I guess we'll have to find somewhere else then...
Me: Looks like it

Maybe I should have served him at 9:58. But then again, I would have had to have faced the wrath of the kitchen staff, and I'd rather have an SC.

9:58 is pretty much 10, in my book. As long as you don't own an atomic clock, the time is always an approximation anyway.

There's no way I would have made six full meals at two minutes to close during my cafe days.
