Default But I know their name!

Guy=CS
Me=

I'm answering phones
CS: I need Quitman Adult Daycare
Me: *waits for what he needs; the phone number, the tax info., me to go to Quitman Adult Daycare, what? But I go with my gut*.....you need their phone number?
CS: yeah.
Me: one moment please
I look it up in the phone book and a database that would give me phone numbers. Not finding it. I get back on the phone.
Me: You said "Quitman Adult Daycare?"
CS: yes
Me: Sorry they are not listed.
CS: You can't find Quitman Adult Daycare?
Me: They are not listed.
CS: Did you try Quitman Adult Clinic?
Me: I only found Quitman liquor and Quitman Dry Cleaning.
now there is a long silence
CS: But I know their name! I know they there!
Me: You can call 411
long silence
Me: I have to go to the next call.

I hate people saying "can you give me *name of person/place*" or "I need *name of person/place*" instead of asking "can I have the phone number/address of..."

Ah, the guy called back now. My co-worker is looking it up and not finding it.

But yeah, arguing with me about something you saw and I can't find? I'm not saying it doesn't excist but then I will say you must have the name wrong if you keep on insising.

And yes, people call the library instead of looking up phone numbers in the phone book.

See, I have 411 on my cell phone, and if I'm not sure of a number or place name, I use google. I never would have thought of calling the library because I'd assume the workers there have better things to do than play operator...silly silly me, what HAVE I been doing wrong all my life!?

People call the Library for phone directory?

SC: I need Quitman Adult Clinic
Me: I'm sorry, you've reached the public Library, not directory services.
SC: I mean, I need the phone number for Quitman Adult Clinic.
Me: I'm sorry, you've reached the public Library, not directory services.
SC: Quitman. Starts with a Q. You can look it up.
Me: I'm sorry, you've reached the public Library, not directory services.
SC: Look, I just need the phone number for Quitmans!
Me: I'm sorry, you've reached the public Library, not directory services.

... ad nauseum.

Not just the library. They used to call the service desk at the grocery store and I know for a fact that our front desk gets 3 - 4 calls per day for phone number lookups. But not from guests, from locals who live nearby. The policy is to always look the number up for them because that is 'good customer service.' I tried the argument that if they're not staying with us, they're not really customers, but that fell flat. *sigh*
