Default Thank you for your inconsideration!

A girl I know, who is knew to town, who is kinda sweet but kinda nuts, has been texting me lately. And by "lately" I mean every day. At first I couldn't figure out what her deal was, as she has a boyfriend. Then I found out that the texts I've been getting are part of mass texts she sends to EVERYONE, every single day. Basically she's fishing, seeing who will respond, so she can talk to someone. Since I found this out, I've stopped responding to her texts altogether, figuring if she wants to talk to ME, she can text ME. I've been really close to calling her on this annoyance, but I figured I'd be nice. Figured she'd get the hint from my lack of replies. Figured it would stop.

But now she's gone too far.

She just texted me. At 7:35 am.

A few things should be pointed out here.
1. I am NOT a morning person. Everyone, including her, knows this. I know she knows this because I actually trained her at The Bar when she worked there for five minutes a few months ago. (She has already been fired from three different bars, lasting no more than five weeks at any of them.)
2. It's Fantasy Fest, the biggest week of the year, when everyone is working late, partying later, and getting very little sleep.
3. Last night was The Bar's biggest night, as it was our "official" party, so everyone and their uncle was at our bar. No one on staff had the night off.
4. I am NOT a morning person. Ever.

So, last night I got home and got to bed about 3:35 am. Technically that's early for this week, but I did not go out hard after work, knowing I had to open this morning AND that I would be going out hard tonight, having the night off, because my manager loves me. Also, for the first time all year, I'm fighting a bug. So needless to say, I was dead asleep.

Here is the text conversation verbatim:

SEATTLE: "U up?"
JESTER: "It's 730 freaking am. Are you out of your mind texting me this early?"
SEATTLE: "My bad! Golly bu geese. Just a lil freaked out here."
JESTER: "Go away. Stop. Im sleeping, or trying to."

I know what some of you are thinking. Why was she freaked out, and why did I shut her down when something is obviously bothering her?

Simple. I DON'T CARE. If my good friends text me at that hour, they had better have a damn good excuse. If they do, I'll be the first to help them out of any jam they're in. Seattle is NOT a good friend of mine, and has been no more than an annoyance the last few weeks. And I have given her no indication to the contrary in that time. So whatever is bothering her is NOT my problem, I DON'T give a shit, and it is NOT worth disturbing me at an hour that I never normally exist at at all!

I don't hit women. I don't believe in it. That being said, if one of the ladies here would be so kind as to find this wretched hose beast and smack some fucking sense into her, I and my beauty sleep would be most appreciative.

730 am. Are you fucking kidding me? Geez!

UGHHHHHHH.

My ex bf used to do this....DROVE ME CRAZY.

He knew that I worked until 11 and didn't have class until later, but he still did it! I bitched at him about it and he said that i should turn my phone off if I didn't want to be disturbed!

Um, no. you should have a little more respect, esp since you know it bugs me! It didn't help that they were these obnoxiously cheerful messages.

yeah, notice I said EX.

Why did you text her back if you thought it was too early? If my phone beeps at me and I'm asleep or busy, or don't feel like getting it for any reason, I just don't bother. A text message beep on my phone sounds for a split second, then stops. It's very easy to ignore.

Don't be a slave to your phone, man!

Why did he text her back??!? She was one step away from being BLOCKED, IMHO... When someone does something against your personal rules, YOU TELL THEM. Immediately so, or you acquiesce to the situation, and likely ask for more. The reaction was warranted, necessary, and nicer than I would have been.

And this is the reason why I turn my phone off at night when I'm ready to go to bed and I don't turn it back on until I'm ready to talk to people.

Yeah, but I, and others, do not have that liberty. Plus, there may be some situation that I'd WANT to react to. Jester made it clear, "wanting to chat" at 7:30 AM is a deal breaker. He, and I for that matter, shouldn't have to lose contact with the world because certain people have no sense of decorum.

I dunno about Jester, but my cellphone is my only point of contact. If I turn that off, you cannot get ahold of me. And it might just so happen that one of my friends actually needs me, and I'd hate to leave a friend high-and-dry just because some twit can't take a clue.

As for just ignoring it, I agree with Crazeyal. If you don't make an attempt to tell them to NOT do it, then later if you complain, you're losing advantage because they can say "Where's this coming from? You never said anything before!" (And it might actually prevent a later)

I fully agree with Jester.

It is well known that
a) He doesn't DO mornings
b) He works in a Bar
c) He frequently stays up late

Texting me at that time in the morning if I'd finished as early as midnight would have resulted in an immediate text tongue lashing not nearly as polite as Jesters.

To those who suggest we switch off our phones, to this I say the following:

If I forget to log off the computer system at work eventually it is flagged up at *Central Location*, to ensure I am safe and well they first ring my mobile, then the landline. I'd rather not wake the entire household because I forgot five keystrokes at work. In addition if someone needs to get in touch for a genuine reason I'd rather find out about it as soon as.

If a friend had texted me early this morning, I would have called them back and given them an earful. (texting takes too long and requires coordination - something I have in small doses awake and sober, and completely lack sleepy with a hangover)

Now, all of my friends and family do know not to contact me past 11 pm/midnight (unless its an emergency) because I'm not a night owl and I'm probably in bed by then.
