Default Shopping bags

Here in South Australia, the South Australian government outlawed single-use plastic bags (the ones used in most supermarkets, some department stores etc) on January 1 (but shops have until May 1 to comply, and must offer an alternative). This has forced a lot of companies to change their plastic bags to biodegradable shopping bags (they're more expensive for the company, but are the same, if not stronger than conventional shopping bags, but break down after about 3-4 months compared to up to 1000 years for the conventional shopping bag). Some stores have already made he change, with Subway already changing to paper bags (and not charging you for one), and Target introducing a stronger, degradable bag for 10 cents a bag, as well as increasing it's range of calico bags (which it's been selling for a number of years anyway).

In today's local paper, there's an article that emplpoyees in stores already complying with the new bag legislation being abused by customers because they can't have a shopping bag (despite all stores showing clear signs that shoppings bags are on their way out). It's already being dubbed 'bag rage'.

Just shows how idiotic customers are when they a) are fully aware of the bag ban (it's been extensively advertised in stores, and has received wide media attention), and b) abusing someone who isn't the decision maker.

Dumb customers!

That kind of "rage" is, coming from a non-psychologist, pure narcissism, something a four year-old would do...a bratty 4 year-old, that is.

I find it kind of amazing that we have so many people from SA here, I actually just read that article on "bag" rage a few hours ago, I hate people.

I remember reading a couple months ago that there was such an abundance of single use bags that they outnumbered the people 4-1. But yea I like those canvas ones a lot better myself...trying to find a good pattern to make them even stronger...and homemade.

I also carry a nice shopping bag with me easy. I don't want the world to be covered in horrible plastic bags!

Again, another example of the selfish nature of the human race.

I went through this a year ago when I worked for IKEA. They started charging for bags last October, and were advertising that they would be doing so in print and radio ads from June/July of last year.
And of course when it came time to actually start charging people were apalled and freaked out on us constantly.
I heard everything.
I'm spending $X I should get a free damn bag.
-No, fucker, how much you spend does not entitle you to a damn thing.
I'm not paying for the bag so you'll just have to give it to me.
-Oh yeah, that's gonna happen.
This is digusting, you're making me PAY for a BAG?
-Yes. Any more questions?
It's only five damn cents, why can't I have one for free?
-It's only five damn cents, why can't you pay for one?
This is ridiculous!
-No it's not. And you're acting like a baby, shut up.

People would fight with us, yell at us, call us names, demand managers, you name it. All for a fucking BAG!

the fact that people would rather ruin the enviroment then pay for a bag is sad. If you think about it the cost is less now then it will be in the future when we are dealing with more pollutants(sorry for any spelling errors).
