  • tattoos are addictive (the official tattoo and body mod thread)

Right, while searching for a thread I posted a while ago, I noticed there were various threads and there didn't seem to be a permanent and official one. So I thought I'd start one (if there is already an official one could a mod just merge them please? Thanks)

So, I have a large back tattoo in the process of being filled in. I have pictures of the outline, but none of how much work has been done on filling it in yet.

I will be visiting the Norwich Tattoo festival and hoping to get some more work- as I have found that getting it down is addictive. The pain is tolerable, and the feeling afterwards- like floating on air.

This thread can also be for people considering a tattoo to get advice, and to track down good tattooists in their area and for people who just want to understand to read.

Very well done. Is that all you're going to have on your back is this going to be a part of a mural?

I like the idea of an official tattoo thread. I hereby post the link to my album showing my tattoos (soon to be updated!).
    Enjoy!
I have a...thing. Wanna see it?

Yea, check out that sexy-ass tattoo. A heart that says "mom". I'm bringing it back!

I want to get another one for my grandfather, but I just don't know what to get. I was thinking of getting a tattoo of the German flag on my other arm but my mom said absolutely not, and as she's helping me out with college some and I live in her house, I can't really piss her off too much.

I dunno. It's being filled in at the moment. I may have vines tattooed in, I may not. The next one is an arm tattoo- a cute but punky and tough skull and corssbones- only a kitty skull with cross 'fishbones'. Maybe with a pirate hat- and done in a locket picture style with vines around the 'frame'. (can't remember the actual name)

Guh-Wha? Why not? German is your Heritage, isn't it? Why not display it? I'm German and when I get my stripes I'll likely have them in the German flag colours.

I dunno, I'm only 3/8 German, but my grandfather was fully German.

I want a yin and yang sign on my lower back with vines and thorns, with the initials of the obstacles I have gone through in life in the throns. Then I want to get a flower that is a late bloomer (I dunno, anyone know of one?) to symbolize my sister.

Yeah, I have one or two...

The two leg shots are different angles of the same tattoo. It's done healing now, but it still needs to be coloured.

Yuna and Rikku are completely done and completely shaded and coloured in.

This brings my total (so far) up to four tattoos:
                    1. The leaf/mountains on my left shoulder
                    2. Yuna on my left thigh
                    3. Rikku on my right thigh
                    4. Koi/waves on my right calf

Right now I've got three cherry blossoms on my right shoulder blade, mom, my sister and I got similar tattoos last year when Lex and I were visiting mom for a week.

When I have the money I'm going to get a vine that winds from my right ankle to my left shoulder. Then I'll get something on my left thigh or calf so that I feel balanced, I don't know what yet.

I am in the process of looking for an artist to do a fairly large back piece for me. I've spent several years designing it. I actually taught myself to draw Celtic Knots for it. I admit i'm not all that great at it but I can do it.

I've taken the design to several people and they won't touch it. Part of it is the size of the drawing and it is detailed. The other reason that I got for them not doing it is that they didn't want to work from someone elses design. That was it for me. I walked out after that.
But it's just the outline that has a lot of detail. It's a sea turtle with knotwork as the outline and flippers and head of the turtle. i know there is someone out there that will do it or something very similar. It's just a matter of finding them. My best friend is going to check with his artist down in Tenn. and see if he knows anyone in the Seattle area that might be willing to take on the project.

search for tattoo artists that specialise in custom work, like mine. Shame he's in the UK, cause he'd do it. As for the size, they may be afraid they're never going to see you again after doing the outline- offer to pay a higher deposit. Be prepared to modify the design slightly if they think it is simply too detailed to do well- fine detail can often be wobbly because of flinching.

Be prepared to pay a lot.

i have found a couple of them that might be able to do it but one in in california and that's just too far to go and the other is in Seattle which is much closer and I just have to get over there and talk to the guy about it when I am allowed to drive again.

I can honestly saythat it wasn't the idea that I might not return. They took one look at the design, called someone else over and started making fun on it because it wasn't to their taste.

I know that there are refinements that will need to be done with it so make it work and am willing to do that. It's not going to be easy and I am figuring that it will run anywhere from $500 on up depending.
