knitters, I need your help!

I want to knit something for someone as a thank-you, but haven't a clue what to knit. The recipient is mid-sixties, and I don't think any article of clothing (hat, scarf, etc) would be appropriate. He owns 5 cats, and has a print shop with an embroidery of the anarchists' creed hanging over a doorway. So, a bit eccentric, but a great person.

Help, what should I make for him?

Use biiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiig needles to knit a quick throw, then maybe throw an applique of the anarchy symbol on it? Just be sure not to use wool yarn so that he is able to just throw it in the wash.

Cat toys. You can whip out a bunch of really simple toys and fill them with cotton and cat nip--my cat loooves his homemade mousie.

I like the idea of cat toys, I might do that. All I have is wool yarn, since I spin it myself and haven't moved up to cotton yet.

How confident/experienced are you as a knitter? I have found that socks (big thick ones for hiking) are fantastic gifts, especially for men of an independent turn of mind

If you Ravelry, I have my variation for the decreases in my projects - I'm Rowan619. It kept the cool swirly pattern but avoided the pointy conehead.

Another quick knit is some fun fur type eyelash yarn, knit a rectangle about 4x6-4x8 on needles 2-3 sizes smaller than called for (at least, you want dense!), fold to make a square (ish), sew sides and top, leave enough room to stuff with dried catnip and trust me, those kitties will love you. Just make sure ends are very well secured!
