Apparently, she was exposed as a child when her father worked in the shipyards. They say that caught it early, but I can't imagine what it is like to find out you grew up with a time bomb in your body.

The doctors are pretty hopeful, believing that they got a good surgical outcome. They're starting chemo when she's recovered, and they're only going to schedule one round at a time, as they think it won't take a lot to clear away what's left.
