See, this is the difference it makes.

For their wages, your staff will do their jobs. For a manager they respect, they will do their best.

Kudos to them! From the sound of things, something directly from you (even if it's a token, free lunch, etc) would mean more than anything corporate would do.

see if there's something nice we can do to thank them
That gives me a scary thought -- Corporations often respond to "This guy kicks ass!" by overloading them with additional work, rather than recognizing thr talent they have. I hope they don't /can't.

        THIS!

        And then some!

It looks like you know how to earn the staff respect even with your short tenure there.

The fact you were there on your off time, and worked to make sure everything got taken care of...and THEN praise your co-workers both here and to your bosses...That says quite a bit, and I hope you never lose that attitude Your workers might just go on a hunger strike if the powers that be decide to promote you out of there

Absolutely! Nothing motivates staff more than managers who (a) pitch in when needed, and (b) make it clear the workers' efforts are appreciated. In my last job, I was told, "If nobody says anything, you're doing OK." Obviously employee motivation wasn't even on their Top 10 list ...

^This! And I think it's nice of you to get them some recognition for their hard work. I think with your excellent management and super employees like these two, you'll turn that store around very quickly.
I don't have an attitude problem. You have a perception problem.
