No. Or if there were Netflix never had them. Of course what I meant is the abilities/etc switched also. So Gabrielle would be the 'warrior princess', and Xena the kind hearted but buttkicking sidekick..etc. I guess when Xena came back from the dead, that might qualify though. I never seen Herc's side kick with the godlike strength tho.
As for Ares..you know..he was the god of war..and was constantly getting his butt kicked. Now I know that Athena was considered better then him, but it was sometimes a bit much. For a war god, he seemed not to be able to fight very good.

One of my fav's was the musical episode of Xena. Cheese-fest galore!
And, yes, both Xena and Gabrielle were drool-inducing babes. Didn't they make-out at some point? Or was that just my wishful thinking?

Not sure, but there is a relationship undertone between them throughout the whole series. Which is why they had a huge lesbian following.
You know after the 25 year stasis, things sort of went down hill in Xena. No Joxer, very little Ares, and the whole demon/angel thing was a bit bleh.

Renee O'Connor - the actress that played Gabby is from my home town,
Her stepdad owns a pair of (locally) famous restaurants - I've eaten at one of them
and my aunt used to babysit her younger brothers.
no i've never met her, though it is apparently still quite possible for a chance meeting.
yes you may commence with hating me now Jester.

Ok, just seen 'Soul Possession'..where they did indeed switch roles (though very temporary). Xena was in modern day Joxer's body and kicked butt (for about a minute). *laughs*..that was funny.

I've got the whole Xena series on DVD, plus the two Hercules episodes that introduce Xena (she was a villain in the first episode).
I've seen most of Hercules but haven't gotten around to getting them on DVD because for awhile they were rerun fairly regularly. Haven't seen them in quite awhile so I guess I'd better get them; I never did see the last two seasons.
Xena seasons 1-3 are the absolute best of both series. It starts going downhill in season 4, though there are some episodes worth watching in both.
I hated Gabrielle at first, but she grew on me and I really liked her by the end of the first season.
Any episode with Autolycus or Castillo were attention grabbers for me. Joxer grew on me as the series went on. The Xena episode where they kept reliving the same day was one of the best.

Speaking of which, I love the music that plays in the second episode that features Xena, (The Gauntlet) atthe battle in the castle about 10 minutes before the end.
In Herculese, Full Circle is hilarious at the end, just the way Ares walks off utterly dejected after being taunted.
Yeah, I've seen every episode of both series several times, can you tell.

Update: received Xena Seasons 1 and 2 on DVD in the mail today. Yay me!
(On a completely unrelated and very perverted note, with all the porn parodies they are doing lately, why isn't anyone producing a Xena porn parody? Just a thought....and I know I am not alone in this one....)

Myty, Kevin Smith didnt die until after both shows had ended. Still one of the best aussie actors period.

Loved both of these shows. It was always fun trying to pick the Aussie and Kiwi actors. As for guest characters, I have to say I really loved Autolycus, Joxer and Salmoneus. And Callisto was kick arse. That psychotic grin as she was fighting was awesome.
So the mythology wasn't accurate, but the fact that Kevin Sorbo looked that buffed and Xena showed that girls can kick arse, who cares about the mythology. (I like reading about myths and legends, so I could usually tell when they went all screwy with the myths.) Plus Bruce Campbell, need I say more.
Funny story, my mum loved watching Herc and Xena, and loved Autolycus. She is also a fan of Burn Notice, which she has been watching since it started. We were watching Burn Notice earlier this year and I mentioned that Bruce Campbell (Sam Axe) had really let himself go, especially since he was so in shape on Xena and Herc. Mum asked who he played on Xena. She was shocked at my reply and tried to argue that it wasn't the same guy, though Dad admitted he thought he looked familiar.
