No Such Thing

I was doing some ordering behind the counter when I saw that my partner had a short line.

Me: I can take someone here.
SC: I was standing here for about TEN MINUTES before while you were PLAYING with your [product]. (He wasn't waiting ten minutes. Nobody was. My partner's too fast for that.)
Me: Well that's my job too, sir.
SC: DO IT AFTER HOURS.
Me: There's no such thing as after hours, sir, this is a 24 hour store.

After he left without anything to say to that I reflected that because it's 2nd shift and the manager isn't there...technically we ARE after hours...

My store is a 24-hour place too. There is no "after-hours" time for us and customers will never understand that. One customer whined to a coworker of mine who was putting the returns into a cart at the return desk, "Can't you do that AFTER the store closes? I'm next in line!" My coworker had to explain that the store is open all night, so it's impossible to take that advice. I don't think the customer seemed to understand even THAT logic. These customers all have jobs that obviously close down after a 9-to-5 shift. Most don't even have jobs at all!
