From one of my colleagues

Our client (insurance) as been trying to find a jeweller to replace his wedding ring. But no jeweller will give him a discount because of the insurance. He said he refuses to pay full price for jewellery so instead took the cash settlement (at depreciated amount), which was approx $1500 less than the replacement.

This early in the morning, it's rather hard for me to articulate what I'm really thinking on this guy other than he has no sense at all. In all likeliness it involves a double facepalm with a rolling of the eyes. But hey, it's HIS money, I guess. I'd rather just let insurance cover it and not be out anything but copay.
