    Oh sure, when it's a buick, it's all "my foot slipped". But shove that old lady into a Toyota and it'd be all "The CAR did it!" .

      How scary would it be to be in the building when that happens... I think it's about time that someone stop driving...

        Honestly, nearly all of these incidents are due to accidentally pressing the wrong pedal. Driver then still thinks they've got their foot on the brake, and pushes harder to slow down, but in fact they've got it on the accelerator and it makes them go faster...

        It's probably harder to get this wrong in a manual transmission car, because you need to keep your other foot on the clutch when stopped and in gear, otherwise the engine stalls. This provides an intuitive reference point for where the other two pedals are.
