  • I know you're trying to help, but...

Customer 1 gets done and leaves, leaving behind her card, which I don't notice until Customer 2 says something. She points out where the lady is going out the door, but she's already out. I'm in the middle of Customer 2's transaction, we have a lockup for valuables, and I'm not supposed to leave the curb while on the clock. I go to give the card to the service desk girl like I'm supposed to. Service desk girl is asking who it was; she's decided to go after her. I answer that it's a blonde; don't know where she is. Customer 2 says to my coworker that she just left and "she [me] could have caught her." in a disgusted tone. OK, there are all kinds of reasons why I couldn't, including policy, physical, security. Don't assume and criticize me openly.

See, I would have reacted "Well, so could have you. I didn't think you would want to wait. But oh well. Next time anyone, even a animal needs help, I will completely ignore you to help that person/pet since you are so helpful, thank you". (You got to say that in a nice tone, not sacarcastic).

I don't see how she's trying to help. She didn't run after the person who forgot their card... (And yes, I tell the clerk what happened before I run off so they aren't standing there perplexed).

I once had a customer that found a purse in the store. I looked in it for a name so I could page that person to come to the service desk. The customer that found the purse was just standing there and waiting. I thanked her again and she said she would wait until the lady comes back to make sure that I give it to her. A few minutes go by and nobody comes up to the service desk. The person probably left the store. I tell the lady that found the purse again that I will keep the purse secure until somebody calls or comes back.

She said she would wait a little longer because she wants to be SURE that we give the customer her purse back. Another five minutes goes by nobody still comes up for the purse. The lady finally decides to leave but not before telling me to make sure that I give that purse back.
