  • Who keeps doing this, and why?

Every shift I keep coming across, usually in a similar spot, several coins glued to the ground near the parking meters.

As a prank, it's kind of stupid, costly, and pointless.

Aside from that and the one minor complaint I got, I'm enjoying my job quite a bit. I even escorted someone to the office to pay her ticket when she got lost and asked me for directions.
Low lie the Fields of Athenry/ Where once we watched the small free birds fly/ Our love was on the wing/ we had dreams and songs to sing/ It's so lonely around the Fields of Athenry

If you have a pocket screwdriver you could be picking up some coffee money!
There's no such thing as a stupid question... just stupid people.

if it's happening this often, it might be worth carrying some kind of material in your pocket or at the office.

On the other hand, it is kindof funny.

That's gotta be the dumbest "joke" in existence. You bend over to pick up the coin and find out you can't. End of joke. And where is the person who did this? Does someone actually have the time to sit around for hours watching people try to pick up that coin?

Maybe they saw empire records and wanted to be like the cool kids.

Next time you see the coins take a look around and see if you're being filmed. Over on You Tube there are thousands of vids of people being prank like that. The culprits are usually near by using a camera phone. If it's next to a building look up. Some office worker may have done it just to past the time while at work.

Where I use to live there was a fire department where the fire fighters had bolted down a wallet on the sidewalk in front of the station. (bolted the inside flap so the bolt wouldn't show) and would sit outside and watch as person after person try to pick the wallet up.

Bring a bottle of acetone nail polish remover. Pour a little over the coin and pry it up with a jackknife. Bonus points if you can spot a security camera and give it the thumbs-up when you're done.
