  • Lady complains about us not charging her

It was one of those mornings where it's still one minute and then "they" come at you all at once. I swear on all that's holy they plan on it...I just know it.
Well, anyway, this woman comes up.

    Me: may I help you?

W: Yes I'd like my receipt.

    Me: Sure.

    W: *gives room number*

I pull up her guest info.

Me: Ma'am you made this through Expedia.

    W: No I didn't!

Me: Yes you did, so there'll be no charges from us.

    W: I didn't! I used YOUR website!

Me: The computer says you used Expedia.

    W: No I didn't!

The line behind her gets bigger.

Me: Ma'am you don't seem to understand. We're not charging you. Expedia has charged you. You need to get your reiceipt from them.

    W: D8 ....*deer in the headlights* ....

Me: So if you don't mind I'll just help the next customer. Next, please.

Next Customer: Hi I'd like to--

W: *snaps to attention* Wait a minute! I need my receipt, I know you're lying! I know you all are charging me! I'm not leaving until you do!

So again, we go around a few rounds. The smiles of the customers turn into frowns and they give her a wide berth as she rants about needing her receipt and accusing me of lying. I even show her her reservation, where it's clearly marked with "EXPEDIA" and she retorts with "Nuh uh!"

Me: ...would you like me to get the manager?

    W: *stare*

    Me: Manager!

Luckily the manager was in a good mood and decided to come out, and went a few more rounds with her, repeating exactly what I said over and over. Meanwhile I helped the rest of the customers. The woman did not like me helping the others, she kept repositioning her body so she blocked them. But I still managed to.

    Finally...

Manager: *sigh* Well maybe the website looked kind of like ours and you made a mistake and thought it was ours?

    W: Hmm...no I don't think so...*blank stare*

M: Well I don't know what else to tell you except we did NOT charge your card.

W: *lightbulb* ...Oh! Well why didn't you just SAY that then?! I was in a hurry and you wasted my time! *leaves*

Me and the manager just stared at her for a long time after she'd gone. Really? I've had people complain about us charging them because they didn't know, didn't want to pay, but complaining about us NOT charging them?!?! That's a first...

issue or no what makes her think she's so important that she can block other customers while she's already got the manager helping her.
Interviewer: What is your greatest weakness?
Me: I expect competence from my coworkers.

There are lots of super sneaky websites like that and it's easy to get confused if you aren't paying attention. For example, if you Google "Specific Hotel," the first result or two might be labelled as "Specific Hotel" or "Save up to 25% at Specific Hotel," but they're actually ads for Expedia and the like. My parents keep getting caught by these imposter links, and they don't believe me when I try to tell them they went to the wrong place.

Not to say she wasn't sucky, I'm just saying I can see where she might have thought she booked directly on your website. Refusing to believe you when you told her otherwise (and then blaming you for wasting her time) was definitely sucky!

That's happened to me many times. For some reason, alot of people think that, if you booked online on any website, you have booked directly with the hotel when that just isn't the case.

Looking really quick if I type in the hotel I worked at...

There are 3 google ads on top (with that off-white blue background colour that it's easy to miss on multiple display types) followed by our actual website as actual result #1.

          The three ads:
          1) Expedia
          2) Our chain's website
          3) a site that's marked as chainname.domain.com

People have clicked on all 3 and insisted that they booked on "our" website.
