I went shopping today, I got 40% off of my whole cart. It was a great deal, but I feel really bad about it.
Today is Black Friday, but I never take part in that horrible 'tradition'. I was shopping at a grocery store. So why did I get 40% off?
It was a Going out of Business sale and this is their last day. The workers found out only a few weeks ago. Just in time for December.
So 15 or so people are out of work. Our town can support 2 grocery stores, the competition even allowed prices to be low enough too bring people from the surrounding towns. I heard rumors that the management was not the greatest though. Combined that with the fact they were about 1/3 the size of the other grocer (limits selection) and the fact we are on the border with Nebraska (no sales tax on food, if you buy $200 in food you save more then the gas), I guess they just could not compete anymore. Still it is a real tragedy, especially being this close to Christmas.
I hope they are able to find jobs soon.
