  • Where does one go to slow dance?

I realize I live in the bleak cultural wasteland of Western Massachusetts. If it's not nose in the air art galleries and events then it's locals getting drunk and flailing to high tempo hip hop and rap.

A group of friends/coworkers and I are looking to go out to dinner and dancing, but we'd like some nice slow dancing in a place not full of drunken louts.

My Google-Fu keeps coming up with places that give dance lessons, but locations we could actually go for a dinner/dancing evening.

So, I'm hoping folks here might be able to either confirm that either A) there really is no such place within 50 miles of say, Pittsfield, MA or B) help me to find what we're looking for.

Pittsfield is more or less in the center of the county and it is where we would all meet for car pooling purposes given that we're spread all across it from north to south.

    Thanks in advance!

A lot of dance schools will host ballroom/ swing dinner dances on a semi-regular basis.

You might want to try calling a few of the schools that you found and asking.

If you're willing to jump across the border, there's a club in Hudson, NY that does a swing night. Look up Helsinki Hudson for the schedule (I think it's Wednesdays)...

For reference, it's about an hour from the Lee exit on the 'pike. Might be a bit further than you'd prefer, but it's a nifty town with a lot of funky events (even if we do have some of the nose-in-the-air crowd).

Thanks for the advice, KiaKat. I don't mind going to Hudson, though it's bit far for the rest of the crew.

I suppose I could offer them the chance to bring air mattresses and sleep in my living room.

Just take over the dance floor at a local club and show them that dancing isn't just random twitching and shaking
