My coworker was frazzled this morning.
She'd gone grocery shopping last night. While in line at the check out, the woman being served at that time had a seizure, but hit her head hard on the way down and was bleeding from the ears. The woman's adult daughter was frantic. Coworker was next in line, jumped in, cushioned the woman's head and made sure she was breathing and got someone to call 911. While she was on the phone with the dispatcher, she was also trying to relay questions to the woman's daughter, and keep her calm at the same time. The cashiers didn't know what the store's address was to give the ambulance! Management just milled around and didn't help at all, but Coworker had a couple of women who were nurses helping now too. The woman finally stopped seizing and the ambulance was on it's way, so Coworker kept talking to her and the daughter, making sure the woman stayed away, when the cashier asked both her and the woman/daughter
"Can you finish paying for your items so I can keep the line moving?"
Coworker told the cashier they'd have to wait, she was a little busy; it's not like the rest of the customers could have gotten past the woman and blood anyway. The ambulance finally arrived and coworker paid for her groceries without any other comment from the cashier.
Wow, just...wow.
