  • WIsh me luck...again

Just interviewed for a different position at the swamp. It's the one I'm currently serving as the backup to--receiving specialist. The person in that position is retiring.

I think I did real well but there's a number of internal and external candidates for the job. If I do get the job, it will be an increase in pay, better hours and less bullshit to deal with, of the customer and co-worker variety.

    So wish me luck...please?

Guess I should stop asking for good luck. If it weren't for bad luck I'd have no luck at all.

I did not get the job. It went to a co-worker who got the job because of her "experience"--and by "experience" I mean "kissing all the right asses." She has little to no experience in receiving policies and procedures, and isn't all that hot in her current spot. But she does have friends who I'm sure were putting in good words for her.

The double kick-in-the-ass-with-fries-and-a-shake here is that if it were up to my now-former manager, I would've gotten the job. He even told my supervisor several times that he was going to put me in that spot. She has no reason to be giving me false information. The position would still need to be posted so all interested parties could apply, and those people would still need to be interviewed, but it can and does happen where they decide on a person for the job and the interviews become a formality. I thought for once, if life for going to be unfair, it would be unfair in my favor.

You'll notice I referred to my "now-former" manager. He was fired the day before he was to interview me. Don't know why, but it's probably more than just mere incompetence. Some HR people were in the store a few weeks ago interviewing people; I never found out what for.

So with him gone, the decision fell to all the other managers, and they promoted one of their pets. Plus, with freight just being a garbage fire at the moment, they probably figured they couldn't afford to lose one of their best people in that spot.

Honestly, I feel like I had this right in my hands, and then all the forces of the universe said "HAHAHAHAHAHAHA NO" and snatched it away.

So, I guess it's time to step up the job search, except I'm kinda sorta planning a vacation and now don't know if I can afford to go. I don't want it to interfere with my job search.

Thank you anyway for your good wishes. I'm sorry they weren't able to come true. Moral of the story: Hard work is for suckers. Manipulating people and knowing the right people will get you farther than hard work ever will.

So sorry Irv! Maybe she'll crash & burn and it will open up again? As to the moral: true, but I think most of us would rather sleep at night w/ a clear conscience.

At this rate, it sounds like your store deserves to crash and burn. Do keep an ear out for what happened to your manager - his exit sounds rather convenient for somebody else.

I will say that manager needed to be fired. I've had bad managers before, but never one who single-handedly managed to completely fuck a store in 8 months.

The next time anybody mentions how great it would be to have a manager who works alongside everybody else, I will say "Be careful what you wish for; you just might get it" and have him in mind. He only wanted to do work on the salesfloor. Couldn't figure out how to schedule right, did not follow up on important reports or investigate lost merchandise ("You say you can't find those 50 boxes of crayons anyplace? *clicky clicky on computer* I just subtracted them from inventory"), left us perpetually shorthanded because he didn't want to be bothered with going through applications and interviewing.

It just sucks that I couldn't profit from his incompetence.

One consolation: we are starting to pull ourselves out of the mess he made. And we're doing this without a lot of management involvement.
