  • An Interesting Week!

So I work for a before-and-after school care program that takes up to 35 kids at one time maximum. We usually get between 10-20 in the mornings and 20-25 in the afternoons. The kids have 2 sport sessions a week (not done by us).

Well, so far this week we've had:

-One afternoon with 32 children. With 2 staff. And it was raining. Yet we got through it with no major dramas whatsoever.

-Not one, not two, but THREE new enrolments in the same week. All are casual kids, but we were NOT expecting any new enrolments until the end of the year (for our kindergarteners). One parent also dropped a form off for his kid, who currently attends one day a week. Next year she'll be attending 3 days a week including mornings.

-Two of my kids almost got into a physical altercation. First time I've had to actually restrain a child to prevent him hurting someone else. (I was told next time just to try and block him, but I couldn't catch up in time)

-Two kids decided to try and get our child with autism to repeat that he was eating "poo" (aka sultanas). Bosslady came down HARD on the two children for that one. They didn't get a punishment, just a warning. (Child with autism has a tendency to repeat anything that gets a laugh from others. While this isn't normally a problem in and of itself, it DOES become a problem when what he's saying is flat-out inappropriate and he doesn't always understand this.)

-One of the kids who was acting up the previous week was absolutely good as gold that day. I was pretty much throughout. (He's normally good, but easily rivalled our suspected ADHD child in terms of his behaviour all last week and early this week.)
