  • Pity me...

Woke up around 5 this morning and my tummy was not happy. Little after 6 started throwing up. On and off until noonish. Slept some in between and finally decided around 4 that it was safe to attempt a shower (after which I had to lie down and catch my breath). Still have not managed any actual food because I'm afraid to attempt anything I have available, except I think I could handle an apple but I'm too tired to get it. Waiting for my mommy to bring me apple juice and ginger ale and drinking watered down Gatorade in the meantime.

I am not a happy girl.

    Feel sorry for me, please?

My mom cut up an apple for me and that seems to be staying in place..

        ****GROSSNESS AHEAD!****

Yes, keep hydrated as best as you tummy will allow..

One thing that concerns me, is that you mention:

..... finally decided around 4 that it was safe to attempt a shower (after which I had to lie down and catch my breath).
Did you have to literally catch your breath? Do you already have chronic breathing issues, making this sorta "normal" for you?

Please, in any case, get medical help, if you are able, if you don't feel better, like, tomorrow.

Of course, your tummy issue could be any number of things, and, of course, I am not medically qualified, but all of the additional symptoms you describe; fatigue, weakness/very low energy, remind me of nearly two years ago, when I........ummmmmm.......had it coming out of both ends.

Thought it might be food poisoning at first, but nobody else that consumed food at the two, only possible sources, got sick, that I knew of.

It hit about 7:00 in the evening, very suddenly, with the only warning being a (slightly, IIRC) upset tummy maybe no more than 30 minutes prior, and as soon as it "hit", I suddenly felt very weakened.

I don't think I was even comfortable doing tiny sips of water the rest of that evening, could barely do sips the next day, and don't think I tried anything close to solid food until yet the next morning.

This started on a Saturday evening, and the following Tuesday evening, I had an already scheduled appt with my Primary Doctor. Tuesday was the first day I felt pretty normal, and back to eating in my normal manner, but still not fully recovered from that incident.

After describing the previous few days to the Dr, she determined that it was likely due to an antibiotic that I had started a few days before that Saturday, because of a lingering cold-type virus. (That's normal for me nowadays, what with chronic lung issues; the cold eventually settles into the lungs, and just stays there for probably a good week or two longer than colds used to last).

Dr. figured that I wasn't allergic to that particular Antibiotic, (though I AM allergic to a couple others), rather, the Antibiotic did TOO good of a job; it figured, "..okay, I got rid of that crap in his lungs, what can I work can I work on next?", and decided to work on the bacteria in the gut AND bowels.

Anyway, heal up, and yes, I feel sorry for you. Not only for being ill, but for reading through this long diatribe of mine.

This sounds a little too similar to something that happened to me a few weeks ago. Ate dinner Thursday night, but felt full quickly, then had a bit of stomach discomfort. Slept poorly, stomach kept waking me up and making me roll over.

Friday morning, I ate breakfast, felt queasy, but it stayed down. Took the day off work. Had to sit on the toilet 4-5 times. Went and bought antacid just in case it was an ulcer or something, to see if it would relive the symptoms. Didn't feel like eating, but kept sipping water and gatorade. About 11:00, I threw up everything I'd drank. After that I would throw up any liquid I tried, even just one sip would later come back up. Threw up 5 or 6 times. Stomach was hurting etc. Having a hot shower after throwing up was the only thing that provided relief. I almost felt normal, so ran a hot bath, and that was nice, but as soon as I got out, the discomfort was back.

4:00, I went to the doctors, at that point almost unable to straighten up, and I was feeling really tight and sore in the lower right of my abdomen (you may guess where this is going). Wound up in an ambulance to hospital, now that I'd stopped drinking I was throwing up yellow bile. Saturday morning I had my appendix removed. It was about three times larger than it should be and had turned gangrenous.

When I took my shower I was probably slightly dehydrated; I hadn't had any food and only some water and coke (have since switched to ginger ale and watered-down Gatorade because I didn't want too much caffeine; I also have some apple juice since I can usually tolerate that but I haven't had any of that yet). I'm guessing the hot water in the shower didn't help. Haven't been sick since around noon, and was able to keep an apple and liquids down. Feeling less fatigued now and breathing normally. Checked my temp a couple times earlier and it was slightly below normal, but it's gone up in the last few hours (just under 102 about 20 minutes ago). Not sure if I should take anything for that; all I have is advil and I'm afraid that might irritate my stomach. If it's still up in the morning I'll call the doctor.

Right now I have to pee which is probably a good sign, hydration-wise.

Being able to keep the apple, liquids down, and peeing are probably pretty good signs. The one thing that concerns me in your update is the fever. So, yes, please get ahold the Dr. tomorrow, if you are still running a fever, or suddenly feel worse, or revert back to not being able to keep anything down.

Don't know what to say about the Advil. I share your concern about possibly re-irritating your stomach. I stayed off my daily prescriptions (nothing too risky missing a dose) the day after my getting sick, since my stomach still seemed pretty tender, and I was even a bit uncertain about drinking more than very occasional sips of water. I haven't had a fever in years, so no real recent experience in dealing with that.

I wonder if there's a reputable medical advice line you could phone, (or, I suppose, even live chat online), that you could maybe pose that question to?

If you feel anything other than nausea, like aches and pains, get yourself to a doc. It's not worth witing to see what will happen on the offchance what happens is bad and could have been prevented.

Seconded -- Call them, or the hospital if they don't answer. That temp is high enough to warrant it all on its own o_O

Go in to the ER, now. Fevers and aches together, especially with nausea,
are NEVER something to take lightly.

Call them or get to the ER right now as a few others have said. There are enough symptoms here that are "immediate medical attention needed".

I'm OK. Temp is down to 99.5 this morning and aches are gone (except sore muscles in my back and sides which is probably from throwing up so many times). I even think I might eat something, though I'm just starting with some apple juice.
