  • Positive thoughts please

A few weeks ago my son's girlfriend texted him that something bad had happened. After a series of texts and phone calls, I picked her up and brought her to my house, then called CPS. Since I was willing, they left her with me while they investigated. The courts have since taken her into CPS custody, and she stayed with us while we underwent the background checks and home study to be approved as her guardians. We've been approved by all the lower level workers, but the admin doesn't want to approve because she's a girl and there are three teen boys in my house, one of whom is her boyfriend. We have a meeting tentatively scheduled for early this upcoming week for a final decision.

I really feel we can care for her safely. The house is gigantic. We have her in the bedroom on the first floor and all the boys on the third floor. Neither my boyfriend nor I work, so there's two full time adults in the house. I feel that in spite of the mixed gender issue, more harm will be done by moving her. I'm really hoping for a miracle. I'm athiest, but at this point I will take any positive thoughts, prayers, chants, whatever if it will help.

Thanks. There's obviously some additional background that I omitted from my OP for privacy reasons, so there's a whole awful lot more to this story. I'm not a new person in this girl's life. She's been eating at my house nearly every day for months, and I've been paying for her bus pass so she could get here, and just recently I added another line on my cell phone account for her because she had to take the bus through some sketchy areas after dark. I can't tell you how glad I am that I got her that phone. If I hadn't, she would have had no way to call for help that night.

All that to say that I'm quite invested in this girl's well-being. At least the state will keep me involved in her case if they decide to move her somewhere else. I'll get notice of all the court hearings and other major things, so I can continue to be a part of her support system.

        Good vibes ~~

It's very kind of you to do such a thing for her, if there were more people like you the world would be a much better place.

            Thanks.

I just can't say no to a kid in need if I can do something about it. Also, I really love teenagers. I loved my own kids when they were little, but I have very little interest in being around other people's small children beyond "oh, how adorable, now go back to your mom". Teenagers, on the other hand, are awesome.

I'm the opposite. Love little ones, can't deal with teens. When the adolescence thing kicks in, my usual reaction is "please go away until you're a human being again".

I do hope things work out for the best for all parties.

Can I hug you, mathnerd? I had somebody like you in my teens years and I credit them for me still being alive today.

My fingers are crossed that things work out and that this young lady can stay with you. Even knowing that your door is open to her can only be a huge relief to her right now, that she had a place to go when things got bad. Give her a hug from me, somebody who has also been in a pretty rotten situation growing up.

Thank you. It's a pretty bleak outlook right now, but it will be decided one way or another tomorrow. I will update when I can.

And like I said before, I just try to do the right thing. The girl needed a safe place and I had more than enough room. How could I say no?

We are leaving soon. We will have a final answer in two to three hours. I've accepted that this is not likely to go my way, but that doesn't make it suck any less. I'm still holding out hope for a lady minute miracle.

No matter what happens, at least you made an attempt. To me, that is huge all by itself - so many people would turn a blind eye to this sort of situation. But you aren't. There needs to be more people like you, I swear. Sending as many positive thoughts your way as I can squeeze out.

And, whatever happens, the girl knows that there are someone she can trust all the way. I think that's the important thing. Should the other solutions not work out, she knows where to go.
