  • Beepers... grr

This is just a general venting about annoying stupid people.

    Beepers.

These are the people that are trying to go through the automated system for whatever reason, and for some reason when they get a representative, they are still pressing buttons.

Here's the confusing thing. I've called our phones before. When you make a mistake, it gives you 2 tries to correct it, and then gives an apology and says it's going to transfer you to a representative. Then, usually, we've got a 5-10 second hold time before they get a rep.

And I still hear beeps all the freaking time. Loud, screeching, burning-a-hole-in-my-brain beeps.

More bizarre, is the longest possible question in the automated system asks for your telephone number. That's 10 digits. Most questions involve 1 button.

Somehow, and God knows how, I get calls all the freaking time starting off with like 15 beeps. I've counted 15 beeps before. How the hell....?

Why do people just keep pressing buttons like that? Are they pressing at random? And they're not always elderly, either, occasionally you have some young and intelligent-sounding people doing that. Those are the ones that floor me.

Best answer I can think of is them mashing zero repeatedly. Either that or they're pricks who like making your life miserable. Probably some of each.

      I'd think that, except...

Good point, but the fact that they're surprised, more often than not, to get me indicates they were trying, and many times, they express that they were just trying to activate their card.

Maybe some are jerks, but most seem most accurately phone-retarded.

I used to work in a relay center... (very strict about their scripting).

Sooo many people who actually think the Op's are machines they speak into and record their msgs which are processed into a computer.

.... in turn so many mashers think when they dial a relay center with the # of a deaf person to call the voice they hear is a recording.. and take that as a their signal to start entering the # they want to call... all you can do is either patiently wait for them to finish dialing before you repeat your greeting.. or start the "hello?.. hello?" .. where dialing usually begins again... with any luck they'll give up and disconnect.

Its been awhile since I've recieved a relay call, but I do work late hours. The last one I had someone called in for their internet service, and I forget the problem, but the solution somehow involved resetting their modem, which I did from my end. Well, that ended the call pretty quickly, the relay operator lost her line of communication with that customer. Oops, I wasn't thinking too hard on that one.
